As some of you know, I've been looking at the Glocks and Sigs for my first gun. Luckily for me, a local shop has a G19 and a 226 for sale, both preowned. He said the G19 was owned but never fired and he could do ~$540, and the 226 with night sights for ~$650.

He also has some M&P 9s for roughly $530 (new I think).

There is another shop with a 229, and I believe it has night sights as well. He said he could do $575 for it.

The price on the 226 sounds high, especially since I've found one (a CPO) on the forums with some accessories for $525...but there is also something to be said for buying it at a shop that you can return to if you have any problems. I wouldn't buy one without being able to hold it (or an identical model) in my hand first, so I'd like your thoughts on this store's pricing. There are a couple of other stores but neither one has anything Glock or Sig in stock and I'd have to play the waiting game and I'm pretty eager to get to the range.

That's what I thought too, especially since I've been finding G19's online for $459-$500 (plus shipping of course). Maybe it has some extras like night sights or hi-cap mags, but he didn't mention those so I'm assuming it's a plain jane G19 with fixed sights.

The first shop you listed seems to be about $30-$40 higher per gun then what I would expect or even pay for. I bet they have a 30 day policy where you can buy the gun (used) and if it doesn't perform to your likings you can take it back for full refund. Some shops provide this warranty only if the gun does not function and don't take the accuracy into consideration.

If this is the case I guess it's what you want to pay for. I haven't been burned on a used gun yet and I stay clear of the shops who charge extra because of their hidden built in warranty costs. When I buy a gun, I usually know I want it and have no second guesses. If I don't want it it gets traded in and I only lose the cost of a few rentals at the range.

Wow, I think I might go through that group buy. I haven't read up on the compensated versions...do most people go for the vanilla or the compensated?

$540 for a used G19????

My God, I can get them new in Tampa for $479.

Yeah, I thought it sounded high...that's why I posted here. Like I said, after I talked to him I started looking online and even after shipping I can get a brand new one for less.

It's a very nice shop with lots to pick from, but they were closed when I stopped by yesterday so I'll have to see if he's high on all of his guns or if he is just trying to pull one over on me (I told him I was just getting into handguns so maybe he thinks I don't know how to do research on pricing). I understand that they have to make SOME money in order to stay in business, but considering he bought it back from the original owner I'm sure he could sell it for considerably less and still turn a profit.

In Maryland the 9mm and the 40.

M&P's sell for $500.
I'm pretty sure the .45's will go for $25 more.
Va. is SUPPOSE to be cheaper !?!

Dealer cost has been going up on the M&Ps, so that actually sounds decent for a new M&P. $540 on a pre-owned G19 is pretty high. The 226 sounds like it's priced right.

I sell G-19's NIB everyday for $499.88 + tax~! The price on a NIB SIG P226
(not a CPO model) with factory Trijicon night sights with a standard blued
finish is 'bout right. A CPO model should be closer to $579~! The SIG P229
is close to being on the money.

I don't know what is up with VA right now but on a recent trip to a few local stores I found the stock to be $60-100 higher than the exact same guns at the big-box places.

Yep, WAY high.

Are you sure you aren't working with the pawn/gun shop in Longmont? that sounds like their pricing policy.

Don't know if you have a Fin,Feather, and Fur in Va., but the one in Ashland has the .40 and 9mm M&P's for $ 399.00.

I'd buy an M&P right now for $399...I went through about 40 rounds with one and it was a very solid gun. That's cheaper than the XD, Glock, and obviously the Sig. But apparently prices around here are at least 25% higher than what I'm seeing online...***!

Guess I'll go with the 19 for $450 thru the group buy and keep my eye out for a nice deal on a Sig.

for used guns the prices sound kinda high. I got brand new G23 for $546.89OTD. And have seen new S&W M&P's for under $500 average.
