picked up a used Winchester 1300 18.5" barrel w/full length factory mag...(8 shots I think) for $240 cash, no tax. Synthetic stock. Looks to be in good shape...

Was that a good deal, fair deal...or bad deal....

Looks very similar to the FN Police shotgun, although that is parkerized, and this is blued....

Not a bad deal. I purchased my 1300 for $269 about 3 yrs ago or so. The FN shotgun is based on the 1300. The only problem that I can think of is that the 1300 is no longer being manufactured so parts and repair may be a problem.
I love my 1300, I'm sure you will enjoy yours.

pretty good deal, i paid 270 + tax for mine in tx.
shot no more than 50rnds and sold it on this fine site for $200

I figure you got a fair deal. Real question is always whether you are happy with it. Lots of parts available in the usual places as well as EBay. Seems there are always stocks, barrels, and internals being auctioned off. I figure my 1300 will be going strong long after I can no longer pull a trigger.

Although I have more of a hunting version of the 1300, they are good pump guns with reliability equal to the Remington 870. Don't worry about parts. There are plenty of 1300 parts out there for whatever you want to do. I have the original synthetic stock assembly on mine available after installing a Monte Carlo type stock on my 1300. Your price was a good deal.

I took apart the Defender I got for $240....looked almost new on the internals. No wear I could discern at all, springs, hammer, firing pin...

I think the barrel needs to be cleaned on the inside. That's about it. Action seems smooth.

Easy dissassembly too....

Wonder why Winchester went down, and got bought out by Browning/FN...any one know the biz reasons?

Sounds like a decent deal.
I have a 1300 blackshadow. Good dependable shotgun. Breeze to clean up. The 'speed-pump' action was a thing to get used to. Easy to find chokes for.

$240 is a very fair price. I've seen them for less than that, but I've also seen them for more. I have 2, both with wood stocks, one I got for $180 and the other (in better condition) for $210 OTD. I also have a 26" Black Shadow that I got for $190 OTD. I feel like I got a good deal on each of them, and I'm always on the lookout for more.

The big gunshop near me had a wood Defender marked at $279, it's not there anymore. They also have a Black Shadow just like mine, but in worse shape, for $299. That one's been there for a while. The going rate seems to be around $300 at gunshops, less for face-to-face.

The synthetic guns seem to get a higher price, so I think the price you paid is fair, and bordering on good.

I like my 1300's, I'm sure you will too. Parts are relatively easy to find and reasonably priced, with the exception of barrels. I wanted to get a 26" barrel for my Defender, and found that it was cheaper to just buy the whole gun. There's a very limited selection of accesories out there though, so don't plan on adding a bunch of extra parts.

I got a killer deal on a 1300, the top of the line one with three choke tubes, wrench, and the nice polished beautiful wood NIB never shot for $150.00, but that was fromn the same guy who sold me both his like new Bushmaster M4 for $600.00, and his Uberti Cattleman in 45colt for $125.00....I LIKE this guy!

Does he live in a rubber room where he can't hurt himself? Wish I could find a "nut" like that! Maybe one that owns a Colt owned by Wyatt Earp...

I have a standard field model 1300- It was our first 12 gauge shotgun. I love it, but the price to order a short bbl and an extended mag tube were about the same as buying another, dedicated HD shotgun. There are two things I don't like about the 1300- Aluminum reciever and the slide release size and placement. Otherwise- it is a very solid gun. We bought it new for $209 at Walmart in late December of 1999.

My 1300 was $189 on sale, but it has the regular barrel and magazine. It's a great shotgun, especially for the price. Sounds like you did ok.
