value of used Winchester 1300 defender

Looking at a used winchester 1300 12ga 18.5" 8rd. capacity model . Owner said he'd take $270 is that a fair deal for what it is? I don't know anything about these models.

My other cheaper option is a pardner pump protector (870 clone) for about 200, or a stevens model which I think may be a chinese Ithaca clone for 230.

I saw a brand new wood stock Winchester 1300 on GunBroker yesterday with a buy it now of $280.00.
I also paid $265.00 just the other day for a one owner wood stocked 8 shot Defender 1200 that was at least in 97% condition.
I would say if that shotgun is in nice condition,in other words devoid of rust,pitting,rubbed off blueing,cracked or chipped wood,then that would not be too bad a price at all.
You certainly could do worse.

This was a synthetic stock, parkerized finish. I think I will pass on this one if the mentioned models are indeed available for similar prices.

value of a used Winchester 1300 Defender

I happen to be very partial towards the Winchester 1300 Defender line and think this is a good price for a SG that's in great condition. These are quite underrated IMHO and folks usually go nuts over the Remington 870 and Mossberg lines, each being solid SG's without a doubt. But that does NOT take away from the Winchester. Now the 1300 TECHNICALLY isn't made by Winchester any longer. Instead they have a FN model (I think??) that uses that basic blueprint to manufacture a comparable model that's basically a Winchester 1300.
But the 1300 incorporates a bolt design that's somewhat unique when compared to other SG's. It's bolt is a four lug rotary lock, similar to the AR-15's. It locks solidly into the chamber of the barrel and keeps pressure trapped in the barrel through the peak of the firing cycle. The receiver does not have to withstand the pressure, and so can be made from lighter material, aluminum. It also allows the use of lighter plastic materials in the trigger guard and some other internal parts. Some see these as weaknesses, I see them as strengths. After the pressure peaks and returns to a safe level, the bolt unlocks and the remaining pressure assists the bolt in it's rear ward travel. This makes the Winchester the fastest pump action shotgun out there. If you've ever fired one you'll see that follow up shots are very quick and it darn near cycles the next round on its own! Power assist is what I call it.

Chambering is smooth because it uses dual action bars to "shuck" shells and this prevents binding when working the action. I've never had a binding problem with either of the 1300 that I have owned. It's marketed and called the Winchester Model 1300 Speed Pump and that's for a good reason. The1300’s unique action design makes it possible to shoot follow-ups faster than ordinary pumps.

If the model you're talking about is in good to better than good shape I would jump on it for 270. If you pass let me know so I can grab it!
