Ithaca 37 questions

I'm on vacation, so I don't have access to my collection. But if I remember correctly if you look at the threads, on a new barrel (over 855,000) there is a lip at the very end. The old barrels do not have that lip.
You can still find barrels with fixed chokes and screw in chokes, try Gun Digest (formerly Gun List) look under the barrel listing. The barrel with screw in chokes run about $200. (the chokes are the same as Win Chokes, on the 12 ga guns, True chokes on the 20 ga ).
Watch out for cut off barrels, the are a lot of them around.
If you think you have the correct barrel for your gun and you can't get it started on the receiver, try loosening the yoke (the horseshoe bracket that is attached to the magazine tube) then try it. Make sure when you tighten the screw on the yoke again that you leave a equal space on each side of the barrel.
I have some spare barrels, new style, that fit loose, even one that spins 360, and it shoots just fine.
With the Deerslayer I found that standard Win slugs give the best groupes, what are you using?

Hello boys. It's been a dream of mine for years to convert my 1983 vintage model 37 four-shot riot gun to a seven-shot mag with the appropriate barrel. Is it possible that this gent at Diamond Gunsmithing could do this work?

Thanks.

Black Talon, as others have stated thanks for the amount of effort you are putting into this thread.

I have been combing the local pawn shops for an 870 Wingmaster or 870 Police, but I went into one the other day and saw the distinctive mag tube front that Ithaca M37s have. I seem to recall my father, (Who is a die-hard 870 fan,) say that M37s were solid and reliable. So, I took a look at it, it didn't seem to beat up, (Though it IS well-used,) and I got them to come down to $120.

I left a short while later with a 28" Mod barreled Featherweight with an Orange hi-vis sight on the front. It has the standard engraving, and the SerNo is 909187. Would you be able to tell me the date? Thanks again.

What sort of maintenance does this shotgun require as a general rule?

hey

mine is serial 542866-4 full choke feather light can I get a date pretty please!!?
I tried guns and ammo but they won't.
Thanks

Yes, it could be done, but you'd have to come up with not only the barrel, but also the extended mag tube for it. If anyone could do it, Les at Diamond Gunsmithing would be the one.

Does anybody know who makes synthetic replacement stocks for the 37?

Choate did/does, but I think they were pistolgrip only.

Are they universal fit? I am trying to fit a 16 ga. Will a 12 ga stock fit it?

Ithaca 37 receivers are different sizes in each of the three different gauges that they were made in. One will not fit the other. Receiver width is common between all three, but height is different.

Thanks B-T. Bummer- I don't think I've seen synthetic stocks listed for the 16 ga. I guess I'll have to look harder. I was going to Tupperware and Duracote an old 37 beater.

One that I am interested in is 528564-2. From your answers to previous inquiries I put it at 1953- Am I close? And with a modified barrel.

I was wondering if Talon could tell me about my 37 serial #5563xx

Your 37 was built in 1954.

Welcome to THR!!!

I am new to this forum, can anyone tell the year of birth for my Model 37 16 ga
serial number 3787XX

DOB = 1951

My model 37 has the interchangable barrel so I keep the 20" on it for house defense. I bought the gun in 1976 for $150 at a gun shop in Mt Dora, Florida.

The S/N is 935715. Can you tell me when the gun was manufactured?

What did they sell for New.

Don

I appreciate your help

1966, and the closest price list I have is 1967. The standard grade sold for $107.95, and the most expensive "Supreme Grade" with fancy wood and a vent-rib bbl went for $184.95. There were several other models that fell within that range.

Was in a shop in Agoura Hills, California this past weekend and they had an older 7 shot barrel and tube set for sale.

PM me if you want the details.

Drat! I used to live in L.A., and a good buddy lives in Agoura Hills. Now I'm thousands of miles away, but in a gun-friendlier state.

Thanks for the thought.

Here's a great Ithaca 37 movie moment:
