Anybody watch "Ice Road Truckers" on History channel last sunday?

I wondered if there would be any legal repercussions from that scene. Maybe the rules are relaxed on the tundra? Still a stupid stunt. But perhaps it was all staged for the camera?

Anyone know what kinda gun it was?

I'm thinking it was probably a 22 cap gun.... the fella driving the truck wasn't stupid, and he knows that a 22 is not a self-defense round. If he did have a gun in the truck for self-defense I'm sure it'd be a little bigger than that.

It was totally staged. Driving trucks is boring, let alone watching a guy driving a truck, even if it is over a frozen lake. Gotta keep it interesting and dramatic.

I actually wondered the same thing... is this guy shooting a .22 at his buddy.. Either way its his trucks so if he has to patch some holes its out of his own pocket... did not understand the reasoning behind it though.

Maybe out in the middle of no-where it's okay, but really, not the smartest thing to do -- even if he is board.

I saw that, and while it looked like it cycled like a real firearm, I just thought "Good heavens... he can't possibly be shooting live ammo at the other guy!" Maybe I was wrong, but if that's the case, then I'm amazed his rear isn't in some Canadian jail right now. Even if not, I wouldn't trust the guy with a spork, let alone a 18 wheeler, and sure as heck not a firearm.

I would not want to be stuck out there without a big gun.

They do have bears you know. Of course freezing to death is a bigger threat than a bear.

MY brother drives trucks up into Canada on occasion, I've asked him to check up on their laws regarding firearm transportation. Given how isolated the road is, I wouldn't be surprised if there is some special permit for self-defense weapons.
From what I could tell, he was just shooting off into the frozen ice to the side of the truck as it rolled along. The rules for distance between trucks on the ice are enforced HARSHLY, I believe they said minimum spacing was something like 100 yards. They also can't got faster than 25kph on the ice, and have to slow to 10kph when another truck goes by the other way, plus slow to 10kph when they transition to and from the ice at portages, to prevent the under-ice wave from shattering the ice at the edge of the lake.
My brother would love to do it, the money is GREAT, almost double the usual rates, but a lot of drivers can't handle the combination of stress and boredom.

This guy is driving an 80,000 lb bigtruck on a friggin' frozen lake and he's BORED?

I thought the show was cool up to the point he started shooting. Starting to smell like the World Wrestling Federation. I wonder at which point they stage the actual fight? I also didn't hear or see any shell casings bouncing around in the cab but I know that can't be. Must be because I don't have Hi-Def.

That scene kind of ruined the show for me--at least that episode. What an idiot. I do like to shoot odd things myself, but shooting out of a moving vehicle possibly at the guy behind/next to you is STUPID.

No the real question is why was he carrying a 22, when there is a potential for needing to stop LARGE critters?

Well the guy was not shooting at the other trucker. The other truck was some distance behind him on the road, getting ready to pass. He was shooting out the window jokingly warning the other driver not to pass him. I believe these two drivers who are friends are very competitive with each other. It looks like a Browning or High standard .22LR pistol. It is real since he picks up an empty shell that landed on him and throws it out the window. It makes for good TV, and that show needs all the help it can get since I find it to be on the boring side. Never the less it was probably not a wise thing to do since he could have lost control of the truck, or hit a bump and shooting out the window which would really suck in those freezing temperatures.

Not to loud....probably an air gun or primer fired paintball gun.

Kinda like when the crab guys start messing with each others gear. Somethign I'm sure goes on all the time, but not exactly something I'd want in the open. Keep it a closed door policy.

Handguns need to be discharged at a shooting range....no loaded guns allowed in a vehicle.

Some of our laws around guns are retarted but it's not that bad up here....thing is some people are antis and when the politicians get involved in gun issues it's never good for the law abidding gun owners!

But since it's obviously not a .22lr in the video and the two drivers (friends) are laughing about it I don't think any laws were being broken.

I am not too sure about it not being a real firearm since if you watch the video slowly you will see the slide move back, a spent casing ejecting, and spark shoot out of the muzzle. He even picks up a spent casing off his dash and throws it out the window. Looks pretty real to me.

Looks pretty real to me too but it doesn't sound real. A 22lr pistol shooting inside a cab would be alot louder plus totaly ilegal to do in Canada.
Maybe this "joker" thought his boss was not going to watch the show but I doubt it.....
The way they are laughing about it makes me think that it's some sort of paintball or pellet gun.
I'm not up on the lattest stuff for air/paint guns but I know there are paintball setups that look real and have blowback operation and paintloads that are loaded in cases that eject as well.
I saw the spent case fly out when the slide moved back and the muzzle blast (didn't see the spark), But I don't see a silencer and the sound just does not seem like a .22lr to me.

The guy who was shooting owned both trucks so any damage to the truck was his to deal with, but I hope that wasn't what it looked like...

why the hell would that sence ruin the show for any of you? it was all in good fun...i thought it was a bb gun because of the sound and it doesnt even look like a 22 but even if it is its not you who shooting it so why would that ruin the show?? and as for it being staged i dont think so...who goes and say its a good idea to stage a guy shooting a gun out a window at another guy?

It looked to me like it was all in good fun. I really doubt he was shooting at the truck, or anywear near it. Just good guys having fun and maybe adding a bit for tv. I don't see how that seen could "ruin" a show like this.

They might have dampened the sound in the studio when putting together the footage for the show. But who really cares. The more important thing is was he was not shooting at the other truck.
