Looking some input about the Marlin XLR in 308 express caliber.I like the Laminate with Stainless.Have several Marlins all really great! This XLR looks to be a great rifle with the new hornady bullets.Anyone have one?Just looking some input! Thanks!

I have the 308MX (blue w/walnut). I love it. The Hornady LeveRevolution ammo shoots moa @ 2600fps. I'm working on some handloads for it, now. This really makes the Marlin lever gun effective out to 300yds easily. We discuss it at great length over at MarlinOwners. Here is mine sporting a nice little Leupold 3-9x33 Compact.

Help me out. What is "308 Express." I'm a huge lever gun fan, but all my lever guns are in pistol calibers or 30-30. I have several .308 (7.62x51) semiautos and bolt guns, but I'm assuming that 308 Express is a different cartridge suitable for use in tubular mags -- right?

The Hornady Lever-revolution ammo has a soft tip that allows it to be used with tubular magazines as you say. The Marlin .308 has near .308 Win ballistics.

where are you located? I know a local shop here that has one if you're having trouble locating one.

i don't believe anyone currently makes guns for the 307, however, and they were taking advantage of the leverevolution ammo. I suppose Marlin didn't want to use a winchester caliber if they could make one of their own

Why re-engineer and make the .308 Marlin express when we already have the .307 Winchester?

WHY NOT????????

As a Marlin lever action enthusiast, I support any attempt to keep it alive. I don't want to see the same thing happen to Marlin as did Winchester.

Also,
There are hundreds of cartridges out there that could be posed the same question. Why don't we just scrub them all? All you really need is 30-06 anyway :scrutiny:

Thanks for the input and the picture of your Marlin.I am planning to get one in the next thirty days.I wanted the stainless but I like the way your blued one looks.A friend is a dealer..the stainless would cost about 550.00 + tax.Not sure about blued price, but less.
Thanks to everyone for their comments and input. It is greatly appreciated.
Marlin has a super nice quality gun.The new Hornady ammo I feel will really bring back the lever action guns for hunting, deer especially. My marlin 30-30 and my .35 have been great for deer.My favorite is the .35.Got my biggest deer with it in Alabama,no scope. That was before the new Hornady ammo came out.Now more range is great!

I wish I could find a 307. Does anyone know? I love the idea behind the 308 Marlin except the fact that you cannot reload it with the same ammo that is was created for. When they come out with Leverevolution bullets for reloading then I might consider it. It is great ammo though.
