My Colt AR has the non-removable carry handle. is there a way, other than buying a new upper, to convert it to a flat top? I have a scope on the carry handle, but I'm sure I could put that on the flat top if it came to it.

There are attachments that add rails to the top of the carry handle, but to make it actually flat top.... not really. Unless of course you want to cut off the handle with a saw and then mill rails into it.

I guess you could, but the amount of machining required would cost a heck of a lot more than what it would cost to buy a new upper.

It can be done, but not cost effectively.

Buy a new flat top upper, sell the old upper. Have your smith swap the barrels or do it yourself with about $40 of tools. BSW

I know of a couple of pre-flattop flattops and the above are correct. To have the carry handle milled off and a scope rail installed would cost more than a new upper receiver now.

SSK Ind. will do it for $125. They leave the rear sight in place so that the iron sights are visible through the red dot. Obviously this only works with dot sights :)
