This was the first time I took my 995 to the range. Needless to say, it performed better than expected. No jams, stovepipes or anything. The only downside is the magazine is a pain to load.

You speak blasphemy. Everyone knows Hi Points are cheap pieces of junk that can't hit the broad side of a barn from the inside and they jam every shot. Seriously, nice shooting.

Who says a Hi Point 995 isn't accurate?

Not me, I just say they are ugly:neener:

Honestly they could be the most reliable and accurate guns on the market but I couldn't own one because they are too damn ugly:barf:

At least they're cheap so they do have that going for them! Still why can't they put some thought into the design, do they want their guns to be as ugly as possible? Seriously I'm curious to know why they look the way they do:confused: I'm talking about all Hi Points right now, not just the rifles but the pistols also.

Sorry I don't mean to hijack your thread its just something I've also wondered about...

Nice shooting btw, looks like the gun works for you just fine!

No, you are right. It is a horribly ugly gun and line, but there is a rugged simplicity to it. All you need is a leatherman to take down a 995. To put it back together you tighten down the bolts all the way.

All bolts/actions in the line are direct blowback, which has less parts to fail. The bolts/screws themselves, which look like a stupidly cheap move, means you could find spare parts in any hardware store in the event of a SHTF/WWIII event.

They are no Remington, CZ or Benilli, but the more I look at it and think about it, the more ingeniously simple the design really is.

BTW-The ONLY worker manning the phone for the company is very nice lady, has a trailer park drawl and calls you "hun".:)

Yes they are ugly but very reliable and accurate. I have one of their carbines in .40S&W and love it. I have fun with mine by making bowling pins dance at 60-75 yards.

Remember the poll results? This board is FILLED with gun snobs, scope snobs and milsurp snobs...Stick with what YOU like, as it's often counter productive to ask for opinions here, as there are so many who will rip something they have no experience with...

You're right on that. There is good info here, but there is also "buy brand name, forget the generic" comments as well.

In this case, I'm glad I waited and got the 995.

The pistols are ugly as a byproduct of their design - they need that massive slide.

There is just no excuse for the stock on the carbine. If they could have made that thing look any more like a lumpy black tumor, I'd like to know how. The sights are also ugly as heck - they could have popped on an AR- or AK-style front sight and made the "wings" on the rear sight less pronounced and it'd look a lot less goofy.

I'd like to pick one up, but I'd immediately have to spend another, what, $80 on a replacement CX4-style stock (and not just for aesthetic reasons - I've handled several 995s and the stocks are creaky and decidedly not confidence-inspiring) and I'd still have the sights uglying the damn thing up.

If they'd just redesign the stock and the sights to be less misshapen, they'd probably be selling a hell of a lot more carbines, because I know there are a lot of people out there who'd buy one but for the ugliness. C'mon Hi Point, just copy the Beretta stock and sights and get it over with.

Make it myself? Don't let me run wild with that or I'd have something like:
"I hope your still anti gun when your dying on your bedroom floor with your own kitchen knife in your neck". Blank t-shirts are just an excuse for me to behave badly in public and scare sheeple. I like my 1st with my 2nd.

Or just get the ATI stock

ATI stock is, what, $60? $70?

Looks like this:

Go ahead. Kiss the frog.

Never said they were inaccurate just junky

I have never heard anyone claim that the Hi-Point Model 995 was inaccurate. In fact all I have ever heard (or experienced) was just the opposite. It is however a low quality firearm whose reliability is suspect. I bought one when I started shooting and had fun with it.

The firing pin on mine broke after about 700 rounds which is completely unacceptable. The stock also is not rigid enough which for me made it unpleasant to shoot. After having sent mine back to the factory to have the firing pin replaced (under a lifetime warranty which apparently is necessary for this product) I sold mine. I would never buy one again.

They are cheap, ugly, low quality and only hold 10 rounds. That said, having owned one, it never jammed in over 600rds of Wolf ammo. I did sell it though, and finally got a Beretta CX4. The difference has to be felt to be understood.

Yep, the CX4 is probably a nicer gun.

However, the CX4 is $600+ New. The Hi-Point is around $150 new.

Im also not too sure that if I bought a used CX4 with a busted sight at a gunshow, they'd overnight the replacement part to me at no charge, no questions asked.

Everyone i know who bought a high point shortly thereafter bought a ATI stock. Takes the ugly right out of the rifle.
