CCW in restaurants

I remember a poster from either this board or PDO that had a handgun in the car at a concert where Dimebag Darryl was shot and killed while he was performing on stage... He couldn't carry at the venue!

That happened in Columbus at the Alrosa Villa. A Columbus police officer took out the shooter with a head shot.

being discovered drunk and gunly
Gunly... what a cool new adjective.
"Did you see the groups he shot? Very gunly."
"Jack Bauer is quite gunly with his USP."
"It's not very gunly to break the four rules."

Also, there is no such thing as a "bar" in Virginia. Establishments with an ABC license must make at least 51% of their revenue from the sale of food - but beer and wine aren't included in the 49% alcohol number. It's weird the way it's set up.
True. The real rub there is that a lot of places you might take your family for dinner - Chilis, Ruby Tuesday, Applebees - are also popular for their bars.

This is why I get so upset with the "concealed means concealed" threads - in VA we don't currently have an option of going out to dinner with our families and being armed, unless we OC, or unless we're doing fast food.

Depending on where you are, you can probably count on a run-in with the authorities if you OC in a restaurant, as well. One guy actually got arrested last spring, but there's a lawsuit going on about it.

I wouldn't say you can count on a police encounter, I've only had one in over a hundred times OCing in a restaurant.

Last time I checked Virginia had slid all the way to 40% from food sales.
A long time ago it was 60% food, then 50%, them 40%.

They also cracked down on happy hours a few years ago, prohibiting '2 for 1' and in some places even banning advertising of a 'happy hour'.

Once you get outside NoVA and the suburban areas (Virginia Beah & Richmond) Virginia is still a 'bible belt' state.

As others have said, here in AZ, you're not legal to carry in a place that sells alcohol for consumption.

As to whether you'd be prosecuted should you use your gun in such a place, I'd have to assume that you would be, but with that said, a lot would depend on the circumstances of your shooting and just who the prosecutor was.

NV is pretty good.

I can understand bars
I carried in a bar last week, I didn't drink & my gun didn't jump out of its holster and shoot anyone.

In NV it is ok to carry and have a drink or two, it is the same legal limit as driving.

The 2A doesn't distinguish or care. The states are all violating the 2A by infringing on our rights. Of course I can see the states making laws to limit our use of the 1st Amendment in establishments that sell alcohol since it tends to loosen people's tongues and cause them to say the most stupid and ignorant of statements. I think permits for speaking should be enacted to protect us from saying dumb things to cute Hooter's girls. :D

No matter what the case is.....

Better to be tried by 6 than carried by 12... (or however that goes)

Oregon has the same intoxication standard as driving. However, most CCW instructors and attorneys agree on a few things.

1. Even one drink will hurt your reaction speed and ability to handle a defensive situation.
2. If you have even a single drink it may end up getting used against you in court if you end up in a defensive situation.
