I'm going to get a "budget" type scope and start with a mueller 4x16x50 mil-dot and mount it to my Bushmaster 16" carbine with an A3 top. I need a hand at picking out some good rings and a mount. I want the scope to be centered in the rings and I want that sucker mounted good. Any of you have any recommendations for a good solid ring and mount kit that I'll be happy with?

Once the new R-15 comes out this scope and mounts will be transferred to that gun.

I have been playing with the same setup (Patrolman Carbine) I am running into trouble with the front sight getting in the way (blurry spot in scope) the only thing I can think of is to mount the scope on extra high mounts and use a cheek pad on the M4 stock.

If you have calipers to make sure the front of the scope's size is no larger than 2.45" like the manufacturers site says, that would greatly help. The 1" rings on midway are measured "measured from base of ring to bottom of scope tube". Which is a wierd way to do it, considering you need top of flattop to centerline of the scope. This means (with a conservative estimate of rail depth), you need to add .65" to the value stated and that has to be greater than half of the max scope diameter.

It appears that http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=678586&t=11082005 These burris rings will get you the right hieght (.75 + .5 + .15 [rail height] = 1.4 > 1.225 = 2.45/2). Before you get them make sure that the actual max diameter, if it is larger will work. Also, this applies only if your handguard is at or below the height of the flattop.

Also, with those rings linked, you can add picatinny rails on the top of them by replacing the top of the ring with another burris part found here: http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=475141&t=11082005

On my AR's I am very satisifed with the B-Square one piece mount. It is a cantilevered type which allows the scope to be put forward which is where many of them need to be for propper eye relief . Armalite makes a similar unit but I have not used that. Good and solid, returnd to near zero if you keep track of which slot it was mounted on. I use with a A2 full size stock and heigth seems perfect to me. It is high enough that the front sight is mostly cleared, will get a little shadow when I go down to 2 power with my little 2X7
scope but I don't notice it with anything 5 or 6 power or above.

I just got a pair of Warne QD rings. Haven't mounted them yet, but my boss has 3 pairs and says the return to zero is excellent when removing and remounting his scopes.

10-4 VARifleman, you have given some great info. For time being and just for the fun of playing around I threw a cheap "made in China" scope on it that came with a Marlin 336A I bought a few months back. Maybe I'll wait to stick that larger scope on the R-15 when I get it. Who knows. Either way the info on here will be saved and used. Thanks again!
