You're standing at the display case of a gun store looking to get a .380 auto pistol as a range gun and for occassional carry. The store only has the following models in stock:

http://www.beretta.com/index.aspx?m=74&idc=2&ids=23

Beretta Model 84 Cheetah at US$980

http://www.czub.cz/index.php?p=32&idp=1&ids=2&idz=3&lang=en

CZ 83 at US$490

http://www.glock.com/english/index_pistols.htm

Glock 25 at US$1118

If you could get only ONE of the above, which one would it be? Why?

Note: The prices above have been translated to US$ from the local currency.

I'd go for the CZ, why are they so much cheaper than the other guns in your country? Thats not a huge amount more than what they sell for in the USA. I got a used example for $225usd in 2006 and I'm happy with it and it's accurate, well made and reliable.

We can't generally get the Glock 25 in the USA.

Personally, I'd go with the Glock, although, the price is about double what the corresponding 9mm Para model, the G19, would cost here.
I own it's .40S&W brother, the G23, and I'm quite satisfied with it.
The Glock is simple to field strip, maintain, and parts can be found all over the world.
If you have the money, I'd go for it.
If I could get one here in the US, I'd have one!! ;)

Thanks for your opinions gentlemen.

However, if the glock is unavailable for whatever reason and the choice is between the CZ or the beretta, which is the TOUGHER and more LONG LASTING handgun?

Is there anything the beretta can do which the CZ cannot?

Probably in theory the CZ is stronger due to it not having an open topped slide. And the CZ has a steel frame.

The Beretta 85FS (single stack version) is one of my favorite pistols. Its slim, light very reliable and accurate.

CZs are quality built weapons, and looks like a bargin, compared to the others:)

I own a Browning BDA380 ... which IS the Beretta Model 84 Cheetah made for Browning by Beretta. So if I was in the market for a .380 and given the three choices mentioned, I'd go for the Cheetah since I've been very happy with my BDA380.

The CZ 83 is a Double stack magazine 12 rounds
Width: 1.4 inches
Height: 5 inches
O.A.L.: 6.8 inches

What are those dimensions in the Berreta Cheetah/Browning BDA?

Something to be aware of.
Here is a Beretta 84/Browning BDA problem that crops up with extensive shooting.

Now:
You could get two CZ'z for the price of the Beretta?
Or two CZ's, and $138 left over for practice ammo for the price of the Glock?

Personally, it's a no-brainer!
Get one CZ, and use the other $490 - $628 for practice ammo, extra mags, a real nice holster, and still have a bunch of money left over!

I would go to gunbrokers and buy a Star Model S 380, can pick one up used and great shape for under 250 , look at the ammo you could buy, nice carry gun , 1911 style , slim , all steel, shoots great, bad part only 9 shot , love mine . Thanks TEDMI.

That's simple enough for a materials snob like me, the CZ. There's no plastic or aluminum in it I think.

I am surprised you have not thought about a Kel-Tec P3AT?? It is worth its weight in gold (literally).

:)

I am an absolutely dedicated Glock user. However, at the difference in price, I would go for the CZ. I have friends that have them, I have shot them, and they are fine pistols. I really do not like the Beretta's design. It is well made, accurate, and has lots of levers in all the wrong places.

I don't know if you're still following your thread but I'd go CZ over them all at those prices. The 83 IMO is superior to the BDA in strength and accuracy, and while I like Glock's a lot, I'm never gonna drop a grand on one. If it helps you out keep in mind that the 83 is the civilian version of the 82, a very successful and popular military sidearm..........................

9mm para might be illegal where he is. (I know I've heard that it is in some foreign countries like Mexico and Italy, since it's a military cartridge). It seems like his selection is pretty limitied with those prices he's listing.

The gun dealer just informed me that his last beretta 84 has been sold. Hence, as he is not bringing in any more .380 guns in in the near future, my options have narrowed down to the Glock or the CZ.

If the authorities eventually approve my purchase permit for whichever 9mm short gun I decide to get, I will post a range report for THR.

CZ 83

It gets my nod over the Beretta 84F mainly because the safety is disengaged downward.

Points:

1) CZ 83 in 9mm Short (9x17) comes with a 13 round magazine (12rd in 9x18, 15rd in 7.65 Browning AKA .32 acp)

2) The CZ 83 in 9x17 was a police issue weapon. In 7.65mm was the civilian version (originally)
