Is the PX4 a good chioce for concealed carry? Obvously with the smaller grips. The only thing i worry about is snagging the exposed hammer on a jacket and then shooting myself in the leg.

Yes

I don't know if you have one and are thinking of carrying it, or if you're trying to decide whether or not to buy one. In either case, I can tell you from personal experience that the Px4 carries just fine. I wear mine Every Single Day. If I'm not at work, in bed, or in the shower, I'm carrying a Px4.

To address your points:

-There are not "smaller grips," per se. They come from the factory with three backstraps, in small, medium, and large, and they serve ONLY to adjust the feel of the gun in your hand. I assure you that you will have no problems whatsoever with concealment based on what backstrap option you select. So go with the one that feels good.

-The exposed hammer is not of the spur persuasion. It is more of a rounded combat type, so the likelyhood of a snag is greatly reduced. You won't be coming out of a pocket with this gun, so you'd have to clear a concealing garment out of the way of your draw somehow anyway.

-Shooting oneself in the leg is a scenario that will ALWAYS (read: Every. Single. Time.) be prevented by observing The Four Rules of Gun Safety. No modern firearm in working order handled safely (a la Four Rules) will shoot you in the leg. Unless you point it at your leg and pull the trigger with a bullet in the chamber, of course.

All that being said, it's only fair to warn you that this pistol is still relatively new. That doesn't mean anything bad about the gun itself, but accessories can be tough to acquire. Particularly holsters. If this is the gun you want, be prepared to search high and low for leather, and to wait for it. My holster took me about five months to arrive, but MAN was it worth it!!! For custom leather, that's the case with just about any gun, but no one I can find makes any regularly stocking item for the Px4.

I hope that helps. Oh, and if you DO go with the High Noon Holster in the link, be aware that they make the holster for the 9mm and .40. They have not specifically mention the .45 model, WHICH IS SLIGHTLY LARGER!

Enjoy!

I would be glad to carry my PX4 .40 but I do not have a holster for it yet. It is a fine pistol and has been 100% reliable for me. It does nightstand duty for me sometimes.

I currently use the PX4 9 mm as my daily carry. I carry it in a Comp-Tac Pro Undercover IWB in the 5 o'clock position. It's not the smallest pistol in the world, but it's concealable. And 17 rds of 9 mm is nice to carry.

I'm waiting for the PX4 Sub Compact to come out. It's long-awaited release should be any day now. It is slightly smaller than the Glock 26, but it carries 13+1 rounds. If it shoots well, I'll probably buy one and use it for daily carry but in the appendix (2 o'clock) position. If it doesn't shoot as well, then I'll probably get the PX4 .45 ACP and trade 17 rounds of 9 mm for 10 rounds of .45 ACP. The .45 is dimensionally identical to the 9mm version.

YES!!!

I carry mine off and on depending on my particular mood. I carry in a Comp-Tac paddle holster and its one of my most comfortable ccw's.

Use Caution

Coupla things:

While the .45ACP Storm pistol is close, it is not a spot on match in all dimensions. The overall length is a touch longer, which will make a difference in custom leather. As far as the way the pistol feels in the hand, the .45 is more or less the same, though a touch heavier (tiny touch).

And nwilliams? NICE slide job on that Storm. NP3? I likes.

Don't you mean 18 rounds?

No, I just load the magazine - so it's 17. I don't do 17+1.

But I guess the real answer is "yes", 18 rounds would be nice, too. :)

I just got my PX4 and love it. However there are better choices for CC that would have the same mag capacity. PX4 is a little bulky for CC. I think the G19 or G23 would be the perfect CC gun.

Any opinions on its older brother the 96fs for CC or is too heavy due to its steel framework?
