I vote for the mdl 28 Highway Patrolman

I have one, albeit with the 6" barrel, and I think that it is wonderful. I also have a 2.5" mdl 66, which is still shootable, and probably much easier to conceal.

Good Luck in your quest for a first pistol!

My husband carries a .40 mini Glock. He loves it. it's the same as a regular .40, just smaller. He conceals to work with it in his back waist band of his belt and you can't even tell it's there.

My first gun was a Model 39-2. I bought it new when I was 21-22. Still have it. Pachmayr makes a wrap around set of nice quality checkered rubber grips for it that are nice if you have larger hands and find the stock grips lacking.

If you ending getting the 39, and find the stock grips not to your liking, contact me and I will send you the Pachmayrs.

ok thanks Maia, will do.

Also, is your (or model 39-2's in general) finicky with modern JHPs, or +P ammo?

I'd probably keep it loaded with Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P.

Wow I wish I had done this when I first started trying to find that perfect one. I went through 13 before I found a S&W Model 10-4 with a 3" barrel. Carried that for 2.5 yrs then bought a supplimental Glock 32 in .357 sig now I am content with my pistols.

I would go with a K frame revolver or a BHP.

My 39-2 is really quite good at digesting most stuff. I can recall a stovepipe or two with some of the cheap stuff over the many years I have owned it.

Hey, 230grainer:

If you like that Smith and Wesson platform, do not overlook the 915.

15 round capacity, 9mm, and it's a handy pistol. It's small enough for me to carry for a backup, but it is dead solid reliable.

Plus, the trigger is VERY nice on this gun. Take a look at one, when you have the chance.

Glock 19.

I don't own one.

I have a CZ 75B for USPSA and steel shoots. I carry a Sig 225.

My girlfriend bought a G17 for USPSA, then later got the Glock 19 for carry.

Extremely shootable. Perfect balance of concealment and shootability, with good capacity. Incredibly durable.

Get a glock 19. If I were going to have one 9mm. It would be a Glock 19 or a CZ 75B. The Glock is a better choice if you are also going to carry it.
