I've been on a revolver buying spree lately(4" S&W 66-2 .357mag and 4" S&W 629-1 .44mag) and am now needing a good .45ACP handgun for HD/Range Use.

The two contenders are a Smith & Wesson 625-3 Stainless Steel 4" .45ACP, which can be had for around $475 OTD.

The other contender is a Caspian 1911 in a commander configuration built by a member of THR. It has Caspian frame and slide, Nowlin barrel and Wilson Combat internals. 20 LPI checkeing on the front strap also. This gun can be bought for $700 FTF and the seller will take payments over the next couple of months or until I'm able to release my gun fund(it's my reserve account right now ).

I've had both configurations of the guns in the past and would be happy with either.

So which should i buy and why?

Caspian all the way

I'm having one built for my as we speak by Dave at Condition One Pistolsmithing. It is a project that I have been dreaming about for almost 15 years, and I can't wait to get it in my hands and try her out. As long as it is well 'smithed, you can't go wrong with Caspian parts.

Good luck

How much do you trust the builder of the Caspian? Sounds like all quality parts, but if the builder isn't up to the task... Unless I really trusted him, I'd go with the Smith and Wesson in this instance.

I want the 625

If you don't buy the 625 I'd like to buy it.
I'm in the market for a 629 or 625 at the right price.
As you recent buys were all revolvers, I'd buy the 625 instead of the 1911.

Very Nice

Looks good. That Caspian of Wichakas looks mighty tempting though, maybe you should get it too. That way It wouldn't keep tempting me .Red

Man, I've wanted both for a long time, so this would be a tough choice for me. But seeing that the Caspian is one I can not buy new in my state, I'd get that one since it is just more rare than the wheelgun.

I really wanted the Caspian too, but it was more money that I could really afford to spend right now.

I think that i'm going to be happy with this 625.

SnWnMe,

Yes it has been recrowned. The previous owner did it at the advice/recommendation of Massab Ayoob.

One of the other local dealers, who told me to go back and buy this gun at his competitors shop, says that the recrown is a $90 job too.

You sure made the right choice. 1911's are a tinker's nightmare. The 625 is going to be a great addition to your shooting enjoyment. I have three! They are great shooters.

PO,

Thanks, I really do like how this gun feels and functions. I just ordered myself 100 full moon clips off of ebay, so i should be set for a while.

I'm sure one of my next .45ACP handgun purchases will probably be a 1911, but it could be the new Glock 21SF.
