Hey Guys,
I've got a guy that wants to sell a JC Penny Foremost 6870 in 12 guage which if I understand correctly is a Savage 30H.
However, I can't find any info to amount to anything on these shotguns.
Any help would be appreciated, but my main concern is, are they a fairly decent shotgun? How did they hold up?
Thanks

The Savage 30 series was a so-so quality pump shotgun. They were pretty complex, but most parts seem to be available. They were all discontinued in the 1970's, and top price today is in the $200+ range. There is almost no collector interest.

If the gun works OK and the price is really low, it might be OK, but unless you need a shotgun quick, IMHO you might do better to look around for a used Remington 870.

Thanks Jim,
I was interested only because it was a Savage. But it has to also be a dependable shooter.
The guy wants 160 for it. I'm not so sure now that it's worth it.
Thanks again

Is it just a coincidence the model number

has 870 in it? I find that strange and wonder if Penneys thought giving it the model number 6870 would make people think it was made by Remington and the same as an 870. Companies do little things like this to increase sales. Just a thought.

A Store brand gun is valued at 15 to 20 percent less. It's considered a cheapened version, plainer cheaper wood, finish and other short cuts.

Ron is correct. I looked up the Savage. In any case, the gun, if it works OK, will make a reasonably good hunting gun and should be priced accordingly.
