I have realized that my AR15's are getting a bit expensive to shoot and would like to pick up a bolt action 22 for target use. I have a Ruger 10/22 and do not like the way it shoots. I would like to spend $500 or less. I would appreciate any adivce as I am not up on what a good choice would be in a 22 target rifle. Thanks

cz 452 American if you want to scope it, 452 Lux if not. $335 at Whittaker. You would have a hard time doing better at even double the money.

Or if you want to save about a hundred bucks get the CZ Trainer, same fine rifle, but with a beech stock. The only problem is finding mags at a reasonable price.

Ditto on the CZ. There are many other economical rifles out there, but the CZ's have great triggers. I'm tired of buying rifles then spending more $ on trigger jobs.

I was in the same quandry a month ago and ended up buying a used Mossberg 144 LSB for reduced range practice for HighPower rifle. My only complaints are that the rifle is more accurate than my AR, has much better sights than the AR, and is easier to shoot standing due to the added heft. A used Mossberg M44 or 144 series rifle will be an excellent shooter and should cost less than $300.

Do you really want a target .22?

Or would you rather keep shooting your AR?

I got a .22LR upper for my AR, and love it.

It's not as accurate as a true .22 target rifle (which can be insanely accurate). But it's a cheap way to keep shooting the AR.

If you can find an old one, Remington 500 series. I've got a 511 with a BSA scope on it.

Managed this at 100 yards with it on a no wind day lol. Can find them in pretty decent shape for somewhat cheap. The 513 Matchmaster goes for $300-$500 but has a pretty good sight setup.
