Im an out-of-box shooter with bulk ammo. My marlins and savages all outshoot my 10/22

That's a little anecdotal, don't you think? How many Marlins were competing in your silhouette competition?
I just looked through the season summary. Out of 197 scores shot they were shot with 72 Ruger, 24 Marlins, 15 Mossbergs, 13 S&W's, 28 CZ's, 23 Savage, 22 misc. Some of the scores were the same person with the same rifle. Only 10 we're perfect scores...3 Ruger, 3 Savage, 2 CZ, 1 Winchester and 1 Mossberg.

Just sayin' shoot what you want...there's a lot of plenty accurate rifles out there. If you want accurate get an Anschutz, the old saying is "Shoot an Anschutz or get beat by an Anschutz."

I am buying a Browning T-bolt next thing.
I was VERY impressed with the used JAPAN model my friend bought; mags are kinda' crappy, but they are very nice rimfires with 22wmr, 17hmr, 22lr; maple, walnut, plastic, sporter or heavy barrel. Nice options.
Have a few 10/22's - several push $600.00 from when the kids were younger -20 years ago;). Not my thing anymore, the toggle bolt on the Browning caught my fancy.

I like PJSprog 's response. It's all what you like. Hunting at longer distances and mainly target a bolt gun is probably better, but my 10/22 would be a not much more than $500 with the stock and barrel and it shoots as about as good as I can anymore.

And yes ford8nr it was early 70s and I can't remeber exactly how big those 10 rings were... tiny about like ( ) but prone with the Anschutz (whose trigger was a thing of beauty hard to descibe unless you have felt one, I still have dreams about it) pretty easy 100s 8/9 X (sometimes 10!) if I did my part the rifle was up to it. (that was when I was young and could still see:).

Now this has got me thinking about buying one......:uhoh:

Yup, 10 ring use to be about the dia. of a .22 cal hole. Now the 10 ring is literally a dot on the paper. The old 10 ring is now a 9 ring. Makes 100's harder to come by. And you are correct a Anschutz target trigger has always been a thing of beauty.

Fella's, and berettashotgun;

I bought a T-bolt last year. It's a thing of beauty to look at & has a crummy trigger, in a plastic housing, and it's prit-near un-de-and-im-possible to work on.

I've got "a few" .22 rimfires, Ruger 10/22's stock, modded, and done in Carrol Iowa among them. But my go-to .22 is a CZ452 American that'll shoot pretty dang good. Making MOA at 100 yards is not at all hard if I don't drink too much coffee afore I go to the range.

Another vote for CZ here, out of the box it is the best gun that I own. Sure you MIGHT get a 10/22 to shoot as well, but you will have more money in it and a great deal more time IMHO.

They look fantastic and just shoot fantastic. Find yourself a "trainer" like has been suggested and you will be very happy.

That, and reports that they aren't as accurate as a lower priced guns such as Savage and CZ, seems to be a common review.

I6turbo;

If CZ made a left handed .22 magnum, the T-bolt would be gone.

I own a CZ "ZKM" HB, a standard wood stocked 10/22 carbine, a light varmint contour 10/22, and a Remmy 597. All have their strengths, but my 597 is equal in accuracy to the CZ. I was surprised to find that my 10/22s were nearly as fussy about ammo as my 597 in regards to FTEs and FTFs.
Considering the state of 22lr availability, the OP should consider getting the bolt gun of his choice, because any ammo you can source will run fine. Nothing worse than having an autoloader and having ammo that won't perform properly in it - and not being able to find another brand of ammo to try.

Goju makes a great point,,,

Now that's wisdom right there.

It factored into a recent decision I made.

I've been taking a young lady shooting for over a year,,,
She's an engineering major at OSU and schleps beer to me at a local restaurant bar.

She will graduate very soon and I wanted to buy her a .22 handgun,,,
She likes to shoot my Bersa Thunder 22 quite a bit,,,
But with the non-availability of .22 ammo,,,
I decided to buy her a revolver instead,,,
It will shoot anything she puts into it.

Is this the same student you made the holster for a while back?

Man, I'm gonna float a few beers past you, myself.

;)

I have a bunch of 10/22s a couple of which are built up. Last summer I noticed a Remington 597 Heavy Barrel at Dunhams Sports on sale for $199.99. It looked really good so I picked one up. Came with a cheap 3-9x scope. Shooting prone with a sling at 25 meters I was able to shoot this group with CCI Blazer ammo right out of box. That's a 1/4" group. I've since put lower rings and a Nikon scope on it. With a little trigger work and some decent ammo, and off a bench I could probably do better. Definitely an often overlooked great bang for the buck.

My brother swore by Remington autoloaders for years. He sure could make them put bullets where he wanted them too. I've seen him do amazing stuff with those rifles.
