XD holster

I have never used it, but I haven't thrown it out either. I may use it if I ever get to the IDPA range again. I use leather IWB for carry.

They work OK, just stick out a little for for concealed. Fine for IDPA, field, ETC. Unless you're just old school, or a holster snob.

One of these days, I'll get around to modifying an XD holster and mag holder to mount under the dash of my truck.

I use the mag pouch, but the holster should be launched from a trap and shot with my 12ga. Crappy and dangerous holster if you ask me. Reholstering was a lot of fiddling when I tried so I went a Crossbreed and leather scabbard.

I'll duck the trend. I carry my XD routinely in the factory holster. It tucks closer to my body than the nice Galco I use for my 1911.

I carry it in my truck console with the holster. I Gorilla glued Velcro to the holster and to the console. Holds it right where i want it. Works good.

Funny you should bring it up...

I was in two gun stores the other day and saw two people buy the xd over the other brand based on the accessories that came with it.

The XD was priced the same as a glock in one store and the customer was sold on the xd based on the holster and mag carrier. FTR, he liked them equally.

In the other store, the customer was choosing between a S&W M&P9 and went with the XD. Again, the holster and mag carrier just made it easier for the clerk to sell. The customer in that case liked the way the M&P felt more, but all that "cool stuff" with big XD's all over it calls to an impulse buyer.

Both of these stores were big box retailers. The sales people at the counter did their best to push the glock, xd, and m&p equally. The XD won out both times just because it had more crap in the box.

S&W has the rebate/ mail in for two free mag thing, but as a consumer I'm pretty tired of the whole "mail in for your free whatever" campaign. The consumer electronic stores have been running that one for over 5 years now.

S&W and Glock should both pay close attention to the Springfield Armory marketing machine. Put extras in the box and make it easy for the counter jockey to sell.

:rolleyes:OTOH the marketing is the primary reason "I" don't care for the XD's.

I use them! ...as a paperweight :p

The one that came with my XD does work ok but there is nothing like leather, that's why I bought a Milt Sparks VMII for mine.

Don't get me wrong, I might use it for a range trip or something. I don't like the holster exposing the barrel of the gun, nor the slide. There is just too much banging against rocks and trees etc if you are out climbing around that could "cosmetically" damage the gun.

I also don't like the fact that if you catch the bottom of the gun it can literally "pop" it out right on the friggin ground!

My Springfield TRP came with one as well and the only setting for it is DEATH GRIP I even took the darn tension screw out! It locked onto it like it was superglued in there! Only way to get it out was to put the belt with holster on the floor and stand on it while dead lifting the on the gun out of the holster.

I actually laughed when I tried to get it out of the holster by itself I grunted, groaned, tugged, pulled, shook, beat on it a bit, and the sucker still would not budge!

The mag carriers I do use them at the range though...so it's not a total loss!

A while back some one on the XD forum posted a pic of an XD9 which he carried in the XD holster and after a year the finish on the slide was worn in an exact pattern as the holster. He was complaining the Springfield should fix his gun because of the plastic on plastic wear he thought wouldn't happen.

I did a quick search for the thread but did not find it, it was a few years ago.

Anyway when I owned XD's I never used the "Gear" - it is a nice marketing ploy though.

I don't think of that piece of cheap plastic as being a holster. I think of it as being a trigger cover.

I have them too, but they came with my Loaded Champion. I am planning on securing it to the back of my nightstand so the gun is not just sitting out, but still accessible .

Never used the one that came with the XDs, but as someone else mentioned, haven't thrown them out either.

For classes and competition, I use Blade-Tech Kydex holsters. But, I will say I have used and like the "V" design of the double mag holder that came with my XDs. Makes it easier to grip than some of the other double mag pouches I own that can stub the the cuticle of my thumb when practicing reloading drills.
