Hey guys, just wanted to make sure, I currently live in Pennsylvania and am moving to Florida,I have a PA Carry Permit and know that all the states but SOUTH CAROLINA honor it , can i legally have a loaded gun in my rental truck while driving through or do i have to unload and lock in a seperate compartment, Thanks for all input. LEN.

in SC the gun can be loaded. it must be in a closed or seperate compartment from the driver. compartment does not have to be locked. ie: closed glove box, console that has a lid, and so on. or in the trunk or lugage area. in a car it would be the trunk, in a pickup truck that would be behind (not under) the most rearward seat in a closed carry box or zipperd carry bag. in a suv the verry back area would be the luggage area again stored in a closed system.

Watch out for NC. Where SC requires a handgun to be in a closed container such as a glove compartment, NC has the exact opposite requirement. You can have a loaded handgun in the passenger compartment as long as it is in plain view such as on the seat or dash. And don't assume for a minute that a PA permit bring you coverage in NC. Laws are obtuse and interpretation is subject to the knowledge level of the officer on the scene.

testdrive and SCPigpen(great handle!)are correct.
Also North and South Carolina are 2 of only 10 states where you must notify the officer that you are carrying during a traffic stop.
Hopefully you won't encounter that situation.
Do not push the speed limit in these 2 states, particularly SC at night.
I know from experience in the past.

Well, NC is supposed to recognize PA permits. That's not an assumption, that's the law.
