I need clarification if anyone knows the answer to this question. I plan on doing a road trip from Florida to Savannah,GA then to Atlanta then thru South Carolina and then to North Carolina. My CCW permit is honored in all those states but what has me wondering is the federal interstate rules:

Federal Firearms Transportation Statute
The federal firearms transportation statute basically states that you are allowed to transport a legally owned firearm through any state as long as you meet the following requirements.

1. Your weapon is kept unloaded and stored in a separate compartment not readily accessible by either the driver or passengers.

2. Any ammunition is kept separate from location of firearms and is also not readily accessible by either the driver or passengers.

If there is not a separate compartment available in the vehicle then the firearm must be kept in a locked container and stored somewhere other than the glove box or console.

Is it legal for me to carry a loaded firearm in a concealed iwb holster while I drive? Maybe I am looking into the details too much but the federal rules seem to contradict what I can and cannot do in the states.

The federal law is only there to protect you if you travel through a state that has restrictive laws.

As long as you follow the laws of each state you are in at the time, you're good.

Retired leos can carry anywhere,in the US,in N>C. anyone can carry openly in a car, pistol or rifle ,in S.C> it must be in the glove box, pistol, rifle shotgun in the rack or case ,in florida u can carry in a motor vehicle, for your personal protection, georgia ?im not sure but u can go to find law and check current laws, when i was in N.C./S.C> the law was very easy on law abiding americans,as i remember everyone carryed in the early 80s,the antis have made headway in some states since then, god bless america. and dont speed.
