In my past 30 years of gunning this never crossed my mind because I was always one to feed a shooting iron its reconmended ammo. But I saw a TAURS revolver I believe that it was a 941 or somthing like that. Any way it is chammbered in the 22 MAG. I want a new revolver to shoot squirrls and small game this hunting season. But I hate the results of the 22 mag it hase too much power and destroys the meat. So my question is can 22 LR be fired in a weapon chambered for a 22 mag.

No. The cases will split filling the charge holes. Buy a .22 lr. Every owners manual says: "Use only ammunition originally chambered for this firearm." Joe

I'd have to wander downstairs to measure, but I think that the WMR case is a bit larger than the LR's, and accuracy would be very good since LR bullets are undersized for the WMR bore (.222 vs .224). You might be able to get the LR's to fire, but you might also get split cases which wouldn't be good for the chamber and maybe your hand.

You can shoot .22 WRF's in the .22 Mag, but if you can find them they're (usually) more expensive than WMR's.

I've shot 22LR out of the magnum cyliner in my ruger single six many times with no problems other than accuracy leaves much to be desired. then again, accuracy isn't great shooting the correct ammo out of either cylinder. bottom line- it's not a good idea, at best you get poor accuracy, worst a blown case. Get a Taurus 94 if you want to shoot long rifle.

If you hate the .22 Mag, why would you buy a .22 Mag and want to shoot .22's in it?
Just buy a .22 to start with!

Or get a Ruger Single-Six convertible and you can shoot either one by just swapping the cylinders.

.22LR is what is known as a "heeled" bullet. if you look closely, you will see that the outer diameter of the bullet is the same as the outer diameter of the brass casing. The bullet has a smaller diameter "heel" that fits inside the case.
In contrast. 22Mag is a standard design where the outer diameter of the bullet is the same as the INNER diameter of the case. As a result, the chamber size is a small amount larger in order to accomodate the different design.

If you want both, get a revolver with interchangeable cylinders. NAA makes several 5 shot revolver that will interchange cylinders from 22mag to 22lr. The Mini-Master would likely be best suited to hunting.

Ruger makes some nice ones too...and have for quite a while.

If you want to get an inexpensive one, Look at Heritage Arms, they have models from 22LR to 45 colt. Much less expensive unless your going to shoot a lot.

The Taurus 941 is chambered in .22 mag. , the same gun is available as the model 94 which is chambered in .22 LR .

PS : .22 LR in a .22 mag chamber - NO

Previous posters have covered it...the LR case will split in a Mag cylinder...loss of velocity & poor accuracy.

Proved it to myself in my Single-Six Convertible...but not intentionaly. Had installed the Mag cylinder, but picked up the little plastic tub w/LR ammo. It actually took me 2 shots to figure out "*** is going on here"? ? ? ?

After I ejected those 2 empties, the little pilot light flared brighter for a moment....
