I wouldn't be posting pictures of illegal acts. Computers, monitors, TVs and other electronic equipment is classified as "electronic waste" and must be disposed of at "e-waste" facilities.

I didn't read where he just left it there and didn't bring it to a disposal facility. Assuming crime where there may well be none isn't too kind.

It is the OP's property to do with as he pleases. No one is being hurt and no laws are being violated as far as I can see.

Just givin' ya a hard time. It looks like you hit the monitor with some birdshot, too. But it didn't penetrate.

must be tough to get your bottle deposit back though........

My buddy and I had a fun time with his old printer that never worked. Two semi-automatic shotguns full of cheap birdshot at maybe 15 feet. Birdshot won't penetrate too much so you really have to lay it on to do some serious damage. It was a pretty fun target and yes we did pick up the pieces and throw them away afterwards.

Busting a flat screen monitor IS dangerous. Even if you disconnect it from the power supply (which holds 50k volts+ for several days after unplugging, if not longer), the screen portion itself contains Mercury, which is very damaging to the environment. He is right, you should have taken it to a proper waste facility.


To tell you, the old CRT monitors do not contain mercury, BUT the bulbs in them can send fragments out as fairly high velocities.

This is mine, about a year and 1/2 ago a skateboard company decided to say they had bullet proof decks. I really made the french skaters and euros mad when we did this.

To preempt any "what caliber for a microwave?" threads, you should use a pneumatic cannon with a 5.25" diameter barrel that is 20 feet long and runs at 5,000 psi. This was the inaugural shot with our new barrel and we put a bundle of 1" diameter penetrators through the microwave - while it was plugged in and running. On a real day, we can launch a 50 pound penetrator at 700 ft/sec through about a foot of reinforced concrete.

Are you sure about this? CRT monitors have anode power supplies that run in the 30 and 40 thousand volt range, and the cathode ray tubes contain lead and some other substances (yeah, like we're worried about lead )

I am not sure why flat screen LCD monitors would have HV power supplies, unless maybe for fluorescent backlights? And if the LCD monitors conform to RoHS guidelines, they probably have little or no toxic substances.

If anything contained mercury, I would expect it to be the old CRTs.

And yes, for you non-Kali folks, disposal of electronic waste is a fairly big deal here, but that's not a bad thing, and they make it easy to comply with. I say shoot what you want, maybe throw a tarp under it beforehand, and make sure it all gets dispsosed of properly. We shoot electronic stuff all of the time, it's very fun.

They kind of tried that here, but they wanted to charge you 20 or 30 bucks for doing so. Didnt last too long.

So what caliber do you guys recomend for an old Gateway system? Is a .30-06 with a 180 gr Silver Tip enough? At close range (1-35 yrds) , will 12 ga OO buckshot work? Are they dangerous when wounded?
