Time to buy a stripped lower?

They are all pretty much the same. The most trusted brands seam to be colt, bushmaster, armalite, rock river, and stag. There are probably a number of other good brands, too. Stags are good, cheap and available, so they are a no-brainer.

Just bought one. It will sit in the safe 'til I need it and as long as the threat of an Obama-Pelosi ban is hanging over us.

Most of the stuff that makes a good AR good is in the upper. Some stuff that can matter in the lower doesn't really apply to a stripped lower (better triggers, etc.). As long as the stripped lower is in spec it's all pretty much the same.

All that said -- if you are buying one to be "election proof" keep in mind that there is no guarantee that pre-ban sort of loopholes will be left open in any potential new assault weapons ban or whatever. In point of fact, going by recent legislative attempts, they're likely to go after the pre-ban loophole.

I just ordered two Mega lowers for $109/each. I think that's the best deal going for a top shelf lower.

Well, if they do go after an outright ban, then getting a stripped lower is the cheapest risk as those of us with VZ-58's, AK's, FAL's, CETME's, M14's, etc, are screwed out of a larger chunck of change.

You all do understand that the last AWB introduced, HR1022, made stripped lowers useless since the parts needed to finish it out were restricted as well?

Stripped lowers may not work as well if they try this again.

Something to keep in mind.

if you are wanting to build up and AR, buy the upper first. Most of the bannable things are on that.

Get an adjustable stock if you want one. Those might get banned.

And lots of high cap mags.

the lowers what you want in a ban. the ban is on high cap mags and lowers that can take them. get a lower and a ton of mags, and buy an upper assembly late. im thinking of an ar 10 lower if osama wins

"The ban" isn't right now, and should there be another there's nobody on this planet who knows what it will entail. Even those who might like to institute such probably don't know what they might try as of now.

Might as well buy one or two just to be safe.

Best advice for now?????? get "ALL YOU CAN AFFORD" from FTF buys.
We could all lose what we have due to the paper trail from dealers.

I got a dozen or so tucked away, may try to sell a couple of lowers later to afford the parts kits to complete the rest.

If I remember correctly from the last time, the complete rifles jumped almost $1K in price, while the parts did not move that much. If this happens again, a $100 lower becomes a $900 part, that I could sell. I can then purchase two parts kits for the other lowers for each one I sell., and build complete rifles.

Words to live by!!!

I have an middy sitting on top of a DPMS Lower. Was very pleased with it. Picked up another DPMS yesterday locally for $119. From what I have read pretty much all the lowers are made by about 4 manufacturers and are marked for who a batch is being built for.
