Boar Kills Hunter Near Berlin
The Boar War, which has been quietly raging in Germany for months, has claimed its first human victim. Late Wednesday evening in a village not far from Berlin, an enraged and hungry wild boar attacked a hunter, who then bled to death.

____________

This is where you could act like an anti and mess with the stats to say how many times more likely you are to be killed by a boar than gun.

I remember those dang things when I was stationed in Germany. Hated being out in the woods on a FTX etc and having blanks in my M16A2 BB gun and seeing those (seemingly) gigantic hogs snuffeling around our position.

Nothing like a plastic club to keep Momma off you.

One more reason . . .

to kill Feral Hogs before they kill us. Feral Hogs and Gray Wolves MUST become the skilled hunter's targets. These are not "game animals" for the faint of heart. All the big, dangerous predators of America can and will kill our pets and our children if not hunted. Predators ONLY fear humans because we shoot at them. In California, Mountain Lions are getting quite bold: let this be a lesson to us all. cliffy

I agree with trying to off as many feral pigs as possible given the mess they cause but we are already several million behind already in Tx :uhoh:

Yes, the European hogs are quite different from the feral hogs we hunt here. Even the ones here that have Russian hog genetics. The Russian genetic are quite diluted.

Here local we have a lot of Russian influence in our hog population and they will get you. I have had several charge over the years, and some guys have lost dogs hunting them. Seen a few folks get tushed and need a LOAD of stitches to sew'em up. One guy I know shot a 150lb boar and when he was guttin it another charged him from behind and he ended up with about a 6 inch gash on the back of one leg, and another long gash on the fore arm, before the hog charged another guy with him and was put down with a powder burn shot between the eyes. (It was about 225 lbs).

I have seen them in Germany as well. Frightening when you see how high their backs stand. The long darker hair on their backs didn't help and lends to the imagination. Most of the ones I have seen were simply making bee lines from one mess hall to another in Grafenwhoer training area with one intention in mind. Eating garbage.:barf:
They snorted at us in Hohensfeld at night when we got too close certainly raised the hair on the back of our necks.

No, I expect anything large and toothy to eat me if it can. It only seems fair. :)

Hmm, I saw a skunk earlier and quickened my pace. It had it's back to me and when it finally heard me, 10 feet away, it turned to face me, which was a nice surprise. Not too scared, obviously it was a city skunk and knew people. It was in someone's front yard while I walked by on the public sidewalk.

I have to get out of the city more often... But boars are out of my league.

My entire life I have lived with wolves, both as family and foe.

Two legs will ALWAYS be the biggest threat to other two legs period. And yes,I have responded with leathal force against several four legs. Also I have done two medieval boar hunts, took a 425lb boar one period broadhead from a hornbow/horsebow finished it with a boarspear. When I hunt I take the slow and weak, usualy.

I love the fact this can be a dangerous world. At least with four legs its about something honest and viseral, food or defense, not because you have "cool" shoes or money to buy dope!I reval in the fact that when I am in the woods,ie. my yard, I have to stay alert! Lets me know I am alive,if only for now.I have secured a perimeter around my house where me and mine can be dull and safe...two legs can breach this comeplete with malicious intent however and legaly we have one hand tied behind our backs and THAT is frightening to me...unnatural and wrong.

When I lose livestock I pass the cost on down the line as it should be.

I saw a video of a guy kill a huge boar with a kinfe, while his dogs held the hog down. Not this old boy,I'm too old and can't run.

I have done that one time myself, (small hog 150-175lbs)and have seen others go after bigger one, but know others who used to routinely live catch them the same way. Most of them have a few scars from the activity. Not the brightest thing I have ever done, but it was a huge adrenalin rush.

Russian's are one my favorite game to hunt, that can actually hunt you back. My cousin had his pantleg cut by one when he was bow hunting...on the ground level?! He wasn't the smartest one in the family.

I have had Russinas face off with me (in fact have I it on video), but have never been charged...yet. Always a good idea to hunt them with someone else also having a bead on the boar. JMHO

Dang. Please tell me that the responsible animal was hunted down and exterminated?

Can Americans go to Germany to hunt boars?

Sometimes animals fight back.
Hogs are smart animals. Many studies show pigs to individualy be smarter than dogs.

One guy I know shot a 150lb boar and when he was guttin it another charged him from behind and he ended up with about a 6 inch gash on the back of one leg, and another long gash on the fore arm, before the hog charged another guy with him and was put down with a powder burn shot between the eyes. If someone is out trying to kill something for recreation and it gets lucky and defends itself against someone with the upper hand and a firearm... Well that is a skilled animal.
I am not a PETA member. I believe in the wholesale slaughter of animals so I may enjoy thier flesh. But it is only fair that they occasionaly kill one of us even when the odds are stacked against them.
It would seem quite childish to plan to go out and kill things recreationaly you don't even need to kill, and then acting like the animal did something wrong if it kills you or one of its kind comes to its aid and inflicts injuries or death upon you.
You should do all you can to prevent its success against you or anyone you are with, but if it gets lucky, you did sign up for that game.

It is not even displaying offensive aggression like all hunters regularly do (which of course we as people really feel trangressed if an animal ever goes on the offensive.)
I won't place a double standard on nature. We regularly expect to defend ourself against animals, and take it a step further and enjoy hunting them.
I expect some animals to do the same.
Quite frankly there is several billion people in the world, and only thousands or millions of most animals. So we seem to be a bit out of balance. :neener:

@Zoogster: it's not about revenge, or fairness. If you let a boar kill a hunter and get away with it, that boar will realize that humans aren't so tough. Seems extremely dangerous to me--it's not like it was just a fluke, either. Boars are powerful, dangerous animals, and it would be foolish to underestimate them. In the interests of self-preservation, man-killers should be killed.

I personally have no problem with the whole hog getting you while you are trying to get it thing. One of the things that makes up close hog huntin attractive is the element of risk involved. They are strong aggressive and sometimes dangerous animals that can put a hurtin on you. If you don't want any risk involved in your hunting then maybe you need to stick to ground hogs, or quail. BTW I doubt very seriously that the population of humans world wide exceeds that of many species of birds and animals. Some species yes, most species no.

Because Feral Hogs are so Bold at rare times . . .

Humans must take all means to irraticate them! Feral Hogs are a blight and danger upon our beloved country. Hogs love human children, deer fawns, and bird eggs. While not yet the epidemic they WILL become, they seem unstoppable regarding the lands the swarm. Soon we shall read about many hog attacks upon our children. Wild Hogs are NO JOKE, sorry! Michigan is far north of Texas, but we are experiencing their carnivorous ways even this far NORTH! TEXAS has proven we cannot hunt them into extinction, but we MUST attempt to keep them from running rampant across the rest of the forty-eight by hunting them. My kids will NOT become pig food! cliffy
