The hunter approached a boar he had wounded:

"Giulio Burattini, 36, was hunting with his father near the Pigelleto di Piancastagnaio nature reserve in Italy's Tuscany region on Jan. 19 when he shot the boar. The hog hit the ground, and Burattini was approaching the injured animal when, to his surprise, it suddenly got up and charged him. The boar bit him at the top of his right thigh, severing his femoral artery."

i learned that lesson in 2003.

Unfortunate outcome for the young guy. Harkens back to hunter 101 - always approach downed animals cautiously and ready to shoot again if they are still alive. More often that's in case they get up to run to the next county. Still anything with a reputation for orneriness or a penchant for revenge needs respect.

The majority of my hog kills are after sunset, some in the dark. Large hogs that fall are often shot again. i sometimes hear hogs i've shot crash in the bush but won't go there.

I learned that lesson in 1989.

That’s sad. I wonder if he had ever even delt with domesticated animals in distress before.?

That is a classic line when stuff like this happens.

First time I seen it a guy was just released on parole and the next day robbed a waffle house down in Mississippi and got shot & killed.
You know the type, just got released and turned his life around but got caught up with the wrong crowd.

But wait, he was by himself.

That's horrible. Sooner or later as a hunter we all have a close encounter. Mine was with a whitetail buck. Someone told me when I was young kid it's the dead ones that will get you. Again my condolences to his family.

There’s a reason I don’t go into the thick stuff after wounded pigs. Hate it bay he had to learn this lesson in such a permanent fashion. Hard to make much judgement considering we weren’t there to see how it played out. I’ve had what I thought was a mortally wounded deer stand up in the bed of my truck.

Growing up in WV we knew a mailman who shot a buck that was eating apples under a tree alongside the road. He shot the buck with a .25- 20 rifle. Buck jumped the fence and attacked: Luckily a hunter came by and killed the buck. Mr. Scott was in the hospital for several days.
