I did not wish for any innocent's demise

I specifically said "dirtbags" That is, the ones who have destroyed the state-the illegals, gangsters and immoral Hollywood elite. As to WA being liberal, I cannot argue against the point. What is in the mirror is a handsome, intelligent and caring person :)

Cause lord know's if the place fell into the ocean only the criminals would be killed.

If an Earthquake takes CA into the ocean Washington is coming to.

DocCas,

I know that you have to take a test and then you get the card, it's still a special card... is it hard to get.. no, but it's another impediment. I know because before I left California, I bought SA Mil Spec 45 and had to take the test. But when I buy in Oregon, no test or card required, if its a store they call the state police and do instant background check and viola! Your done. I know that as a LEO you don't have to wait for 10 days... but how many of us are LEO's I am not, my father was for a while. Oregon is a Shall Issue state, California isn't it's all up to the Sheriff and even then it seems that they can only issue in their jurisdiction. Ask all those people who are losing theirs in Orange County after the new sheriff told everyone they would be reviewed.

California is not gun friendly. California makes it hard for gun owners... not impossible, but very hard. As I said in my first post... I choose to have a gun in the car to protect my family, but that was my decision. Could I have gotten a CCW permit... no, I didn't have a "need" in California's eyes, but in Oregon... I don't "need" a reason, I want one and I get it.

But as to the OP, it's hard to carry a gun in California legally. Is it impossible? No, but it's hard for an everyday citizen to carry a gun in their car legally. If you are out hiking, I don't fully know what the laws are. You have to deal with BLM lands, State Lands, and National Parks, and etc. Each has it's own rules and laws and restrictions... but it's hard to keep a gun on you legally. If you are hunting, then you are allowed to have a gun, obviously... but it has to be unloaded while in transit. So Good Luck and Be Careful!!

DocCas, I am glad you enjoy California... I didn't and I don't and I have given up on California. San Fran and L.A. are where the population are and they are liberal and control the state. Even AHHHRnold is really a closet liberal and anti-gun. California is hard on gun owners... they even want you to register your guns you own when you move to the state... it's posted in the DMV offices. Maybe if they split the in to two pieces, that would help... but that won't happen. But if we all liked the same things and the same places it would be a boring world... so good luck to you.

"Seattle without the scenery"?? Seattle is one of the most scenic cities I have been in. Far more scenic then "frisco"...

I love being "off topic". Don't you?

Far more scenic then "frisco"...

Yeah, but can you stand on the wharf while eating clam chowder out of a sourdough bowl on a crisp, chilly summer morning?

I have lived in California since I was six, and it was a wonderful place to grow up as a young'un. But I can actually remember the oppression begining when I was living in LA in the sixties. A little here, then a little there. Remember it was CA that brought you fine laws such as smog devices, seat belts and helmet laws(not necessarily bad but it should be up to the individual), smoking bans, diamond lanes, and of course our gun laws which are almost impossible to keep up with and overlap into fish and game laws, so you are probably always guilty of SOMETHING! This lets the law keep a leash on you and they can stop you for anything and be in the right for some trumped up charges because of an infraction you don't know about. I quit hunting here 25 years ago because of the hassle, it's not worth the aggravation.

Harmonic...Yes...Pier 70 Seattle. Some of the best Clamchowder I have ever tasted and I've had the stuff in "frisco"...

Thanks Johnny Dollar...That nerve feels oh sooo much better now...:D

I like how this just turned into another thread talking **** on CA.

Hence my advice first off. Go to Cal Guns for any real info on CA gun laws, etc. This is what always happens here.

Folks from Cupertino,Milpitas, Sunnyvale,et al.,happily use the "pejorative."

No we don't (real natives also don't lump Milpitas in with Cupertino and Sunnyvale). The only time we say "frisco" is to make fun of non-natives. Locals simply call it "the City".

Back to the OP, you can pretty much carry any length folding knife in CA as long as it isn't an automatic. CA State laws do not limit length of folders, only fixed blades and automatics over 2" in length. Do be careful about certain city ordinances though, but I doubt that you'd be rousted by any LEOs unless you were purposely looking for trouble.

Locals simply call it "the City".

...which is why they're ridiculed by damn near everybody else. A certain group of San Franciscans, despite being convinced that they're cosmopolitan, are some of the most provincial bigots I've ever encountered.

This has a lot to do with Proposition 8's winning a majority. It was impossible for those who have too many prejudices and, though I don't care for the term these days, hate for those who don't think just like they do, to persuade the objects of their spite to support their cause.

Also moved north and never regreted the freedoms including firearms that
are found away from Kalli...fornia as the governor Arnie calls it. Been to
the same places Harmonic has in state, including Knight's Ferry on camp outs.
Early 60s it was a totally different place to live and visit. I consider it
pretty well destroyed, and have no desire to cross the boarder unless
necessary.
Carry stuff? Firearms laws vary too much to chance extensive travel
in the state. Options... without dealing with the many law changes over
the years, how about OC Spray or Tasers. A folding pocket knife in an
open carry case.
I have a friend nearby that pawned his shotgun in the Calif. town he lives
in. He went to pay his bill and claim his gun. Paperwork just as if it
was a new purchase $25, fee for paper work, not sure but there was one.
Oh yeah, a background check!!! Lastly a ten day wait period. Hello, as far
north as you can go without being in Oregon. He also is a medical retired
LEO with a carry card that is federal. The person that claimed the state
is firearms friendly, just never dealt with the real world of the state:cuss:
Please don't put yourself at risk by the carry of a handgun. Not having
knowledge of the laws will not get you out of jail free. State, county, city,
and Federal law can vary under many circumstances. The only one it does
not affect is the bad guy:fire:
Not a whole bunch of help, but unless you choose being an outlaw for
getting caught with a concealed or open carry, nix on your visit location.
Pretty sure that you are an outlaw if you OWN a handgun in Frisco and the
Bay area. I'm pretty sure this could change with thhe latest Supreme
Court ruling. Lots of luck on your journey!!!!!:D

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My friend and I are planning to backpack through kali in the spring, I was wondering where I could find information on the gun laws there which would pertain to an out-of-stater and also any general info I should know regarding carry laws and possession of other weapons like knives.

Basically leave anything that you could use to defend yourself at home, and bring lube. Lots of lube.

Its seriously easier to not bring anything out here.
If you call it "The OC" and say
"For sure" you will get instant street cred.
"Frisco" is the soon to be capital of the 51'st state-New California.
Foods good and traffics bad.

Tip #1: Nobody from California calls it "cali."
Some people do and it makes me want to punch them in the face.

Please post a personal photo so we can keep a look out for you.

Says who?

Spelling california with a K is also considered nekulturniy.

Not when you're a former long-time California resident who escaped with his collection of now "illegal" firearms and 20-30 round magazines mere days before SB23 went into effect.

IOW, I've earned the right, and will continue to call it the PRK. YMMV, of course, especially if you can't get out of the Occupied Territories. :(

I did enjoy my weekend trips to San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf for breadbowl chowder, though. Nice place to visit and all...
