"I'll never reload cuz I've seen to many guns blow up"

While shooting at a popular unregulated firing range I had the opportunity to see just how much one particular gun could endure without blowing up . A fella shooting on the bench to my left was shooting at first what I thought to be a large overbore magnum based on the muzzle blast. He began to curse a bit saying something about not being able to get back on the paper and his scope must have screwed up on him. I began watching him with more interest and when he touched off the next round I could see flame shooting nearly 18 inches out of his barrel, a dust devil travel about 10 yards out in front of him from the muzzle blast and was sure I saw something hopping along in the dirt about 50 yards down range. Before he fired another round I introduced myself and asked him what he was shooting. He said 30-06 . I asked him if he was shooting reloads as he was pulling his ammo from factory ammo boxes and he said yes. I suggested he may have loaded them too hot based on what I had seen and he instantly became indignant . I excused myself and moved my gear down another bench while he fiddled with his scope. Not being one to let a sleeping dog lie I watched him fire the next round and again BOOM FLASH BANG and the object skipping down range . I called for a cease fire, walked out and proceeded to pick up what was an empty copper bullet jacket ( still hot ) and presented it to the shooter . He clamped his jaw tight, gathered up his stuff and left without saying a word ...... Any body care to render a guess how hot you have to load to melt the jackets off of your bullets ??? By the way, it was a pump gun built by Remington, as actions go it get kudos in my book .

The stupidity of some people amazes me. I usually load miniumu charges, or slightly above, because neither the deer/elk or target will notice the 100 fps difference.

I've only seen 1 blow up and that was because the guy was trying to save money by using pistol powder for rifle cartridges. Easy to double load doing this.
I know many many people that reload with no problems.

How would I know what a load of HS-6 should look like?

Just for the info of other new reloaders, I bought a set of check weights when I bought the scale.

It was sort of paranoid to get that set, I guess, and I have only used them once. But I thought, "What if I don't set up the scale right? What if I get the one-in-a-million bad scales?"

I think they were about $25 when I bought them, and I have only used them once, but they brought me great peace of mind when I started.

Merry Christmas all.

Is it just me?
Post # 84 keeps me thinking. I don’t want my rights infringed upon as much as the next guy, but I have a different point of view

I’ll quote with my comments.

Snuffy: You come across the street and pop MY DOG, you'll be ducking bullets! That's destruction of private property, against the law.
Me: Hmmm. Ask Joe Horn(Houston) about shooting people out in your yard because they are doing something illegal with someone else’s property. He was no-billed, but that’s no comfort to him. Can you say “POST-VIOLENT EVENT TRAUMA-(Ayoob)” and civil suits?

Snuffy:As gun owners, we HAVE to be damn careful to adhere to ALL laws.
Me: Sounds like good advice for everyone, unless they’re willing to suffer the consequences.

Snuffy: A felony arrest and conviction, can permanently remove our rights to own firearms.
Me: Felons not owning firearms... Sounds like a good punishment for convicted felons.

Snuffy: We can't pick and choose which one to obey.
Me: Agree unless we can “do the time”

Snuffy: Get in a fight with your wife, she calls the cops, you go to jail, you loose you gun rights! Thank Clinton for that one!
Me: Relationship problems “out-of-control-enough” to result in using up law enforcement resources… Sounds like a hot situation that is better off without firearms around.

Snuffy: Get caught steeling, get convicted, same answer, no more guns for you.
Me: Steeling(sic)…
I could agree that rotten no-good thieves deserve to be punished by removing their gun rights.

Snuffy:The only recourse is have the governor pardon you for your felony conviction. Fat chance of that here in Wisconsin. Doyle is a rabid anti-gun governor.
Me: 99% of the time I would think a pardon for a convicted criminal is a bad idea.

Just my point of view.

Doc K Merry Christmas all.

And a merry Christmas to you doc.

My brother has a temper, just like me and my other 2 brothers, we got that from dad. So he gets in an argument with his wife. Nothing more than angry words. Nothing physical. She calls the cops. Once they respond to a family confrontation in Wisconsin, somebody is going to jail. That was my brother! He lost all gun privileges, while on probation awaiting trial. Not only lost, but could have no guns in his house. After the trip in front of the judge, he was handed a felony conviction for spousal abuse.

Now that was before clintoon passed that law. But the bill read that it WAS RETROACTIVE!!! If you've EVER been convicted of a felony, you automatically loose your gun rights! is that fair? I say NO! It's a conviction for something you didn't even know existed.

Case in point; a road you travel every day suddenly has the speed limit drastically reduced. You go the same speed you always do, only now it's way over the limit. Of course the cops are set-up to nab people that didn't notice it. If there was no public notice of the new speed limit, AND the new signs weren't flagged, most judges will throw the ticket out of court. Common sense and fairness sometimes win out.

(Doc K, but I have a different point of view.) You certainly do! A very liberal point of view, one that is in direct conflict with most gun owners, more specifically ME!.
