I cringe everytime I see any of the Brinks commercials. The homeowner's door violently flies open and the alarm goes off and they grab the phone and chat with the operator. They don't know if the intruder has actually entered the house, they aren't looking around , nor are they actively seeking a weapon. Would love to see one of these commercials with someone tucked into a defensive position with a gun in one hand and the phone in the other. Doubt I ever will.

I'm sure someone will be along shortly to post a link to the "Totally Awesome Guns and Range" ad (no, I'm not gonna do it, you can go google it ... its been over posted here).

I remember years ago an ad for a dog training company that parodied a home security company commercial that was running at the time. In the home security ad the wife and kids are in the kitchen at night and husband is away, BG breaks in window on back door to unlock door when alarm goes off. In the parody ad, an alarm doesn't go off but a German Shepherd grabs the guy's hand. Hilarious and effective (if anyone can find this ad I'm talking about it would have run in the KC market in the late 80s maybe early 90s)

well, parody add or not, at my house the dogs could keep a guy from earning a bullet. barking goes a long way...

I agree that these Brinks commercials would easily make good defensive firearm commercials. The robber breaking into the house is big and scary and the woman inside doesn't have a chance until. . . Mossberg, or whomever. If there was such a commercial I am sure someone would complain about using fear to sell firearms. Well these people are using fear to sell an alarm system. It is a strange ad.

Brinks is advertising Brinks Security alarms, and, I suspect in today's world they might be worried about 1.) legal ramifications if a homeowner shoots a BG, and 2.) causing a controversy with the Brady Twits. They ARE trying to sell security systems -- not engage in political activism, after all.

Nevertheless, I too would "like" to see the homeowner get a gun, but I don't expect it to happen.

what i would like to see, is the reverse side of that commercial. i'd be willing to bet if someone came out and spoofed what would really happen, brinks would be sunk

husband and wife kiss each other goodbye on the front door

husband gets in car, notices jogger lean down and tie his shoes. jogger smiles and waves, husband drives off.

jogger waits, runs up to front door of house, kicks it in.

THEN:

alarm goes off, phone rings. the wife runs to the phone

brinks operator: "this is scott from brinks home security.. are you ok...."

wife: "oh my god! please help me.. SOMEONE do something he's attacking me with a knife!! "ouch ouch!"

operator: ma'am, it's ok. i'm sending help right now... ok? just be patient.. in about 5 minutes...

(cough) here's how a real security commercial should go.

They don't want you to use a gun to protect yourself, they want you to buy a security system that will "protect you".

Anybody here besides me have to deal with the folks answering the telephone at those monitoring companies? :banghead:

I surely don't want to depend on them to even notice they got an alarm, much less call in a timely manner.

This topic has come up before.
I think alarm systems are a good idea, it lets you know an intruder is there.
But, as I was about to leave 30 minutes later, 2 Miami-Dade County cruisers rolled up to the house
The police would not have been called, because as you said, you told them it was a mistake and gave them the code.

I like the Hornady commercials that used to run on the Outdoor Channel during Personal Defense.

Mom and dad putting their baby asleep in a crib, thug breaks into the house downstairs, next shot is a close up of cold dead hand holding a revolver while the voice over says something like "Hornady for when it really counts." :D
