to texasRifleman : That was really a great commercial!!!

I get sooo tired of watching the "poor, helpless, blonde girl" as someone is about to do something terrible to her and all she does is whimper/scream/911/run away but falls/drops her keys. This was very refreshing.

If you DO have an alarm system, make SURE you have the Cellular Backup. There are places outside your home that it is easy to disable your land-line phone. If it can't dial out, you aren't getting a response. A Cellular Backup ends that.

It's a good idea but some sophisticated criminals are now being caught with cell-jammer equipment.
...and the "arms race" goes on and on.

And let's not forget about supervised comunication monitoring via the internet. If they cut the lines, we know about it. Radio backup is becoming more and more popular too. POTS lines are just to easy to defeat for my tastes.

JWarren,

We are on the same page.

Folks, Criminals come in all levels of skill sets.

The Oldest trick in the book, is to trip an alarm , and see how long it takes for someone to respond - and- who that someone is.

Ask any Law Enforcement Officer, and any Lock, Safe, Alarm person, going back as far as the earliest alarm system to the newest high tech.

Thunderstorms used to make LEO and Alarm folks cringe.
Systems are better now.

There would be a rash of windows being broken, both homes and businesses.

LEOs , Alarm folks , and Body Guards would get into Hi-Alert mode.

Somebody, was going to get hit, not "if" but when, but assured, someone was going to get hit.

Often disguised as punk kids , throwing rocks, vandalizing areas.

No.
Being cased and response times, and who would respond.

All this information gathered, now time for the criminals to hit.

1. East side of town, alarms go off again, and Cops run to the call.
West side of town the Coin Dealer - the target was hit.
This was all planned , to hit the coin dealer.

1a. Add Thunderstorms, and darkness and rain covers a lot of sin.

2. Forced to open.
The alarm "went off again" the coin dealer is informed.
Third time since 11pm and it is now 3am.
His wife and teenage daughter hears him get up, to attend to this again.

He turned down that setting, twice already, "now what!!".

He is tired, grumpy, and he
a. exits his home.
b. turns off home alarm to exit his home.

He is looking at the barrel of a shotgun, right there in the car port, right as he pulled out of the garage.

Oh he is going to attend to the alarm all right, and open the safes.
His wife and daughter are being held hostage.

Some criminals have more ethics than others, still since some of the crew area going to get the goods from the safe, they are going to have fun with wife and daughter while the crime is done.

Raped, repeatedly, while the crime is done.

Criminals know there are different codes, and one is a panic code.
Both for punching in an alarm code, and verbal one if the cops, alarm company - anyone inquires.

Now one has a real dicey situation.
"If you give the wrong code, we will ____ you as we know, so choose carefully".

The criminals say to both the coin dealer, and the mom and daughter.

3. Parents worse nightmare.

Criminals followed home the coin dealer after attending to alarm.
Just as they did others attending to alarm.

Time passes, everything seems fine, the weather is even nice.
All those windows busted, just "must have been punk kids", as no business was busted into, and nobody was kidnapped or worse.

Criminals continued to case folks.
In the old days, get a business reference book, with the ability to look up folks via name, address, where they worked , and phone numbers.
Businesses subscribed to this really large book.

Not to be dishonest, still if Mrs. Jones really wanted a $10 gold pc, and the coin dealer forget to get her husbands, work place, and phone, just look it up and see where Mr. Jones worked, and his office number.
"Mr. Jones, your wife was in, and really wants a $10 gold pc for the 10th wedding anniversary you two have coming up".

Today, just do an Internet search.
Old tech, new tech, same principals work.

Still the folks are cased and the Coin dealer has this 16 year old daughter.
Inquire, and she attends J. Doe HS, and she drives that Honda.

16 year old cannot have a gun, or knife on school property.
She is underage to have a CCW.

Criminal waits, watching, and in a secluded spot, bumps her car.
Just a little fender bender, nobody around and she gets out to look.

They have this 16 year old daughter.

Alarm company cheesy ads will not share this reality , nor will many Internet Armchair Rangers or Net Ninjas, these last two don't know, and do not think past "gun solves everything".

A Cop will, so will the Alarm, Lock and Safe folks - share about realties, strongly suggest getting some training, some lessons, practiced plans.

For any budget of Alarm system.

Alarms are another tool in the tool box....

Our own federal agency response to bug outs or other emergencies called ready.gov makes zero mention of firearms in their list of tools and supplies to have with you...

A few years ago before I was carrying, an ADT salesman called me to ask if my 'new' home had a security system. I said my German Shepherd would wake me and probably scare an intruder off.

He replied, "Will he dial 911?":scrutiny:

Wish one of those guys would call me now. I'd say something like, 'I have 1911 on speed dial'.:p
