Hey all!

I am trying to remove the barrel bands from my k98. I have depressed the spring, but can't seem to get the front barrel band to budge.

In doing some research, my front barrel band does not look like the one I see on surplusrifle.com. Do I have a band that cannot be removed? If it is able to be removed, does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get this sucker to budge!?

It's probably frozen with cosmoline.

Hear it up slightly with a heat gun, hair dryer, torch (carefully!) and it should tap off.

I've tried the heat thing. ...also let it soak with WD-40 overnight. It just simply won't give, and I really don't want to scratch the finish further.

For the rear band, try pushing the upper handguard rearward.
Looks like the handguard is traveling with the band.
For the front one,use a punch in the "band retainer hole",
and tap it foward with chunk of scrap wood.

Rubber/plastic mallet.

This is the correct answer. It helps if you've got a helper if the cosmo is really caked on there- just take it slow and steady and you'll get it eventually!

Finally got it!!!!!

Took some serious patience and elbow grease! Thanks all for your help!
