all I need now is a decent optic, BUIS, sling, and maybe put on something like a VLTOR or CBS stock.

How much trigger time did the Navy give you with an M16?

Enough to really enjoy shooting full auto!
I, personally, have never seen an AR-15 that was selective fire, or full auto. That doesn't mean they never existed, but other then a Vector UZI, I haven't looked at or handled a selective fire weapon since the Navy days.

Anyway, that's enough for this thread...we're going around in circles...

I will get you some pictures the next time we go shooting. I have a good friend who is a Class III dealer. He has a full auto Colt marked AR15 along with other cool stuff including an original early Armalite AR10. :D
I will have to dig out my pictures from the Corps. I think that my issue M16A2 may have been marked AR15 on it...

Oh come on I_Knight If you squint really hard and are far enough away it could be mistaken for AR.
I may be wrong about my M16A2 being marked that way as I have been out for over 15 years and it was likely just marked Property of US Govt M16A2.
I stand by the markings of my friend's and will get pics... Here is an A1 marked AR15..

Even the DPMS sportical in 7.62 would be a good.
The problem with the sportical is that it is not just inexpensive, it is cheaply made. When you talk actual combat, it MUST be durable. We're talking beyond throw down the driveway a couple of times durable and smash the buttstock against a tree durable... Fantasy SHTF internet scenerios do not normally take this into consideration. The average recreational AR15 simply does not need to be all that durable in comparison to a military issue weapon. Take a look at the difference between the Eotech and a Bushnell Holosight 1st gen. Very close in function but very different for durability as they are both made by Eotech.

We are talking combat weapon here not plinker. So we need to look at only top teir companies here

Colt 6920 or LMT Defender M4
DD quadrail
Aimpoint or Eotech
single or 3 point sling
Troy or ARMS BUIS
Some form of Surefire Tactical light.
FVG.
Magpull MIAD grip
VLTOR Clubfoot Mostock for storage of extra batteries.

Colt 6920
Aimpoint T-1
Troy rear BUIS
Surefire light
BFG Vickers sling

If you simply must have a rail system, Daniel Defense Omega 7.0, or just buy the Colt 6940 with the monolithic rail instead.

My 2 "combat" type AR's are these 2. The only pic I have here at work is with one of my axes though. :)

The rifle on the right is a Stag 2H flat top with detach handle and a cheap flashlight. The rifle on the left is my Colt LE6920 with Trijicon Reflex (no batteries) and ARMS #40 buis.

I have a nice KAC set up for a vertigal grip and flashlight for the Colt but I don't know if I want it on there yet. I like my rifles pretty basic and not loaded down with too much stuff.

There's a reason I have four ARs. It depends on the situation.

That being said, I could probably get by with two. Chances are (in my life), if I have to shoot something I'm going to know if it's going to be within 100 yards of me or not when I have to shoot it. The answer to that question is the answer to "Which rifle would be more appropriate?". I could get by with zero ARs, but for the sake of discussion they'd be:

18-20" Flat-top. 1-4x scope, illuminated reticle preferably. BUIS. Fast twist (1-7). A somewhat durable two-stage trigger. A2 buttstock. Lightweight forend. New pistol grip. Think "Three gun".

16" flat-top, or even an SBR/suppressor outfit. Non-magnifying red dot optic. BUIS. Rail forend. Vertical grip & rear-activated flashlight. NO pressure pad. New grip to store spare batteries. Collapsible stock.

I'm not too particular on manufacturer, or even the optics. I haven't tried enough gear to really have a preference either way, but as far as "fighting rifle philosophy" goes, those would be my picks. ;)

By the way, nice Tele, erict!
