What honestly is the best .22 for just practice and plinking around?

Ruger Mark Series

CZ Kadet. I've had two Ruger 22/45's and just couldn't get into them.

Personally I'm partial to the Ruger 22/45. It's extremely accurate, has good ergos and feeds and fires whatever I choose to run through it.

I replaced the heavy 5" bull barell on my Camper with this 7" TacSol. $149 on sale and 15 minutes work. Great shooter before, incredible shooter now.

The Heggis trigger spring flip is another easy mod.



Nothing wrong with a Ruger, you just cant work on them.

Yes, but they require profesional installation and an FFLs services.

Ruger 22/45.

Well, the first question is if you want a new or used firearm.

If you want new, I would strongly recommend the Ruger Mark III. I also recommend the Buckmark, but with hesitation. I had an aweful experience with my Buckmark standard. I had to send it back twice and then after need to send it off a third time, I gave up on it and traded it in. Also, many people forget about the Beretta Neos. All three of these are quality 22's. There have been some teething problems and questions raised about the zinc castings used for the mosquito and the P22. There is also the Model 41 if you wanna shell out some money... Lets us not forget about our wheelgun breatheren. Since this was posted in the autoloader section, I will not go there.

If you want used, there are more plinkers than you can shake a proverbial stick at. There are High Standards, Ruger Mark series, Sig Trailsides, etc. Just cruise around Gunbroker to see one that catches you eye and then search about it here. You'll be sure to find the good, bad and ugly about them all.

Since you are looking for "just practice and plinking around" You can't beat a Browning Buckmark Camper/Ruger Mark III Standard. Both should be under $300. Good luck and let us know.

Buckmark camper. Older models have what looks like a bull barrel with flat sides. Great balance. Mine has performed beyond reasonable expectations for an accurate, reliable plinking machine.

I have not been good to it until recently, but the thing's 15 years old it's still the funnest arm I own.

If you can hold it still, it goes where it's lined up. Factory sights are 'flat' pistol sights adjustable in clicks (no cheesy screws and hand adjustments). I honestly didn't know much about what I was getting when it was new; chose the design and safety functions I wanted and knew Browning was reputable. What a great purchase it has turned out to be! Can't speak for other kinds but Buckmark would be a very rewarding choice if mine is anything to go by.

Ruger 22/45 III. I picked mine stainless for $220 and never had any issues. Very reliable and accurate. Installed Majestic Arms kit and cleaning is a snap.

H&R 999 Sportsman....

It's awfully difficult to find something better than the Ruger Mark series for performance and reliability, day after day, range session after range session.

That being said, don't overlook the early Colts. I bought a Challenger recently and am amazed at its accuracy and consistency, though I probably shouldn't be.

I have a 617 10 shot S&W revolver. Reminds me
of my first gun that I paid for, a S&W Mod. 18. I had
used a HI Standard Dura-Matic for a couple of years as a
loaner from my uncle. Weird controls with a safety on the
RH side.if I recall correctly, I ended up carrying it
empy chamber to slingshot the mag on the farm.
