Best .22 semi-auto?

Since you have'nt ruled out revolvers may I suggest a Smith 617. They are accurate, easy to shoot and the trigger is so shuweeeet. It will run you more money than the semi's though.

I was making the same choice in early 2001, and went with a Buck Mark (the Camper model). I found the trigger to simply be better on the Buck Mark. Since buying it, over 15,000 rounds have been shot through it. It has been my constant range companion.

I recently added some TacSol goodies (7.25-inch matte black barrel with silver flutes, matte black aluminum grips, and integral Picatinny rail) and an Ultra Dot L/T red-dot sight, and cannot be happier:

Man, that is a sweet Buckmark. I too looked at all the target 22s. I find the grip on the S&W22A to be too fat, and I've been told by numerous sources that the finish comes off so easily. The Neos - I don't like the grip, and when the safety is on, it sticks ya in the hand. The Ruger and the Buckmark seem to be the best. I liked the feel of the grip on the buckmark more, and it is much easier to take apart than the ruger. I got my Buckmark about 6-8 weeks ago, and I added a front fiber optic on it. Love the gun :)

I could not decide between the a Buck Mark or a Ruger MKIII, and I will probably eventually end up with both. I ended up picking up a Buck Mark Plus (like this one) first, because I happened to stop at a store that was going out of business and they had it for $250.

I really like the feel of the contoured grips on the Browning better than the Ruger MKIII's, but after shooting it for a while and cleaning it several times, I'm not so sure about the design. The two allen screws that hold the slide cover on have to be adjusted just right. Too tight, and it won't cycle, too loose, and the rear sights flop around. I know, Rugers are complicated to take down also, but I found myself at the range trying to tighten the screws down with my thumb after shooting around 50 rounds.

It's also lighter than the Ruger models I was considering, which doesn't make much difference to me.

For the $$, I haven't come across anything more reliable and fun than the Firestorm 22lr

Well, I paid $248 for my buckmark. I was trying to stay in that price range because I wanted to use the rest of my cash for extra 5.7 ammo and some PS90 mags. I could have gotten a stainless or upgraded version, but what I have is good enough for now. And, I really like the stock grips. May not look as nice as some of the others, but the rubber grip sticks to your hand nice. Now, that aftermarket barrel does look super sweet. But, not sure if I wanna put a lot of cash into a 22 pistol. I've spent enough on hard chroming several 9mms and buying tons of crap for my PS90.
