Sig Sauer P6, Just went to look and...

So I went into J and G the other day to look at their P6's. Wasn't planning on definately buying one, but the size interested me and I'd read good things about them.
Well, I made the mistake of asking to hold one :banghead:

Several things sold me on it. First, it fit my hand EXTREMELY well. Now I know what you guys mean when you talk about holding lots of guns and finding the right one for you. I have medium/small hands and I'm going to have to start paying more attention to compact type handguns. It's not even the weight, I can easily hold and handle a full size 1911 or my Beretta 92fs all day long at the range or for hours of dry fire practice. But this Sig just "fits" better...
The second thing that sold me was the condition and it's manufacture year. It was made in 99 and after looking at the inside of the slide had very little wear. There's some obvious holster wear, but the slide rails look almost like it's been unfired.
The first range outing went great. Ran some various hollowpoint and Fmj through it and it all functioned fine. Accuracy was amazing. I have to say this is the MOST accurate handgun I own. That suprised me cause it's a smaller gun, and all my others are full sized. Or, maybe I was just having a really good day shootingLOL
So, where do I go for the Sig Sauer detox, cause I think I want moreLOL
Two questions, though...
I'm thinking I want to put tritium night site's on it. Can this be done by hand? I've heard warning's about installing them without a sight pusher and possibly breaking the tritium capsule. Would it be smarter to just find a good gunsmith? I dont see myself buying a sight pusher just to anstall ONE set of sites. Also, on this particular handgun, the front site is labeled as a #7 and the rear as a #8. But all the night sites I've seen seem to be in a matched set, i.e. front and rear #7 or front and rear #8. Am i just not looking in the right place or have a got a mismatched site set up? LOL
Last question and I'll stop typingLOL I've looked at the price of Sig P6 magazines and I wasn't amusedLOL Since their $40 or so for factory Sig magazines and the other brand doesnt seem to get good reviews has anyone here though of putting together a group buy from Sig or somewhere else? There seems to be enough people on here who have P6's and don't like the high price of magazines I'm wondering if thats an idea...

Aha! Thats the info I needed. I was thinking the different numbers had to do with the dovetail cut into the slide, and that made NO senseLOL Now that you explain it I see what I was missingLOL Thank you!

I think i'll skip the pachymer grips, though... Had a set on a Beretta and while they were great grips, made everything too wide. Hmm, do they change the width of the P6 at all? I'm not hating the plastic grips, but well... Gotta customize a new toy=-)

I'm actually considering both, but not really sure wich one would be better, sight wise. I've seen Meprolight's before, but never seen the Sig night sights before in person. Sig's cleaning and function check notwithstanding..anyone have any thoughts on the two different sights?

You know I'm really not sure, I'd call them. I went in looking for their $369 Sigs, they had one on display (prolly had more in back) another on display for a little more, and another for a little more than that. The two cheaper one's were marked '78 and '81 i think. I went for the more expensive one cause of the manufactur date, hoping it would be more likely to work well with hollowpoint. I can't speak for the condition of the other two, though, I didnt handle them. They all LOOKED similiar, just didnt check their internals. I was worried I'd talk myself into saving a few dollars and not be happy in the long runLOL
If you go in remember to try and be in a patient mood. Everyone was nice, friendly and professional, but it was obvious they were quite busy, and had been for awhileLOL

LOL the promag made one was the one i was refering to in my original post as the "other brand". Couldn't remember the name and i'm always mixing up Promag, Magpul and Mecgar for some weird reason...
I've heard the Promag ones are useable if you add a Wolff mag spring, I might give that route a try for range use. Guess I'll just have to keep my eyes open for good dealsLOL

Ahh, I'll probably pass then. I'm pretty happy with the grip dimensions, as they are. Now, the grip MATERIAL...LOL I've never liked plastic.

These, on the other hand, are starting to temp me more and moreLOL I've a pair of Alumi grips for a 1911, and I like the feel of Aluminium quite a bit.

I know exactly what your saying! I'm more accurate with this gun, than others I've been firing for awhile. Dry fire practice has been going well and the sights just seem to line up naturally for me as well. Hope it stays that way if and when I get new sights.
I agree about CCW as well. Provided I can put a few hundred rounds through it without a problem, and can get at least ONE more trouble free Mag I'm thinking it'll be good for concealed carry when I get my license.
