So I went into J and G the other day to look at their P6's. Wasn't planning on definately buying one, but the size interested me and I'd read good things about them.
Well, I made the mistake of asking to hold one :banghead:
Yes, if you havent guessed, I bought one :D
Several things sold me on it. First, it fit my hand EXTREMELY well. Now I know what you guys mean when you talk about holding lots of guns and finding the right one for you. I have medium/small hands and I'm going to have to start paying more attention to compact type handguns. It's not even the weight, I can easily hold and handle a full size 1911 or my Beretta 92fs all day long at the range or for hours of dry fire practice. But this Sig just "fits" better...
The second thing that sold me was the condition and it's manufacture year. It was made in 99 and after looking at the inside of the slide had very little wear. There's some obvious holster wear, but the slide rails look almost like it's been unfired.
The first range outing went great. Ran some various hollowpoint and Fmj through it and it all functioned fine. Accuracy was amazing. I have to say this is the MOST accurate handgun I own. That suprised me cause it's a smaller gun, and all my others are full sized. Or, maybe I was just having a really good day shootingLOL
So, where do I go for the Sig Sauer detox, cause I think I want moreLOL
Two questions, though...
I'm thinking I want to put tritium night site's on it. Can this be done by hand? I've heard warning's about installing them without a sight pusher and possibly breaking the tritium capsule. Would it be smarter to just find a good gunsmith? I dont see myself buying a sight pusher just to anstall ONE set of sites. Also, on this particular handgun, the front site is labeled as a #7 and the rear as a #8. But all the night sites I've seen seem to be in a matched set, i.e. front and rear #7 or front and rear #8. Am i just not looking in the right place or have a got a mismatched site set up? LOL
Last question and I'll stop typingLOL I've looked at the price of Sig P6 magazines and I wasn't amusedLOL Since their $40 or so for factory Sig magazines and the other brand doesnt seem to get good reviews has anyone here though of putting together a group buy from Sig or somewhere else? There seems to be enough people on here who have P6's and don't like the high price of magazines I'm wondering if thats an idea...
Thanks for letting me ramble guys!

Mike

Yes, Sigs are great and the P6 is an awesome deal, glad yo ugot one while the gettin's good.

As far as mags, MecGar makes mags for Sig and most major gun companies, they started a new run of P225/P6 mags I heard. Otherwise don't waste your money on any other mag but Sig factory or MecGar.
Also I see original P6 mags nowadays going for $50 each on Gunchoker (GASP!) that's nuts.

As far as your mismatched sight numbers, the way that Sigs adjust the sights to suit the shooter is to use different height sights, they mark them with a number to indicate the height. By changing the number on the sight you shift the POI up or down. A higher rear sight number raises the POI 2" at 50 feet, iirc.

Rear Sight Heights:

#4 = 5.24mm (0.21 inches)
#5 = 5.52mm (0.22 inches)
#6 = 5.80mm (0.23 inches)
#7 = 6.07mm (0.24 inches)
#8 = 6.35mm (0.25 inches)
#9 = 6.62mm (0.26 inches)
#10 = 6.90mm (0.27 inches)

Front Sight Heights:

#5 = 6.01mm (0.235 inches)
#6 = 5.88mm (0.230 inches)
#7 = 5.74mm (0.225 inches)
#8 = 5.60mm (0.220 inches)
#9 = 5.46mm (0.215 inches)
#10 = 5.32mm (0.210 inches)

I love my P6s, if the next batch that comes in goes for similar prices I may get a couple more.

Go to Sigforum. There is a guy there that sells P225 factory mags from time to time when he gets them. I seem to think they are somewhere around $36-37. He also sells other Sig model mags as well.

You may want to try and find some Pachmayer grips for it, they are "grippier". If you don't like them, I expect you wouldn't have too much problem selling them.

Curious how J&G's stock on these are. I've been thinking about making a trip to Prescott for one of these. Are there quite a few available in similar condition?

MecGar does not make mags for P6/P225. ProMag make one and it sucks. You are stuck with buying factory mags $30-$40.

I picked one up made two months later. Mine never got issued and is in new condition. This current batch from Century has been a real deal.

Aha! Thats the info I needed. I was thinking the different numbers had to do with the dovetail cut into the slide, and that made NO senseLOL Now that you explain it I see what I was missingLOL Thank you!

Kool, I'll see if I can find him. Looking at Sigforums as we speak.. theres a LOT of information there as well =-)
I think i'll skip the pachymer grips, though... Had a set on a Beretta and while they were great grips, made everything too wide. Hmm, do they change the width of the P6 at all? I'm not hating the plastic grips, but well... Gotta customize a new toy=-)

You may want to consider the SIG Service Plan. For $130 they give the gun a thorough cleaning, make sure no parts need to be replaced, replace all the springs, and install night sights.

I'm actually considering both, but not really sure wich one would be better, sight wise. I've seen Meprolight's before, but never seen the Sig night sights before in person. Sig's cleaning and function check notwithstanding..anyone have any thoughts on the two different sights?

You know I'm really not sure, I'd call them. I went in looking for their $369 Sigs, they had one on display (prolly had more in back) another on display for a little more, and another for a little more than that. The two cheaper one's were marked '78 and '81 i think. I went for the more expensive one cause of the manufactur date, hoping it would be more likely to work well with hollowpoint. I can't speak for the condition of the other two, though, I didnt handle them. They all LOOKED similiar, just didnt check their internals. I was worried I'd talk myself into saving a few dollars and not be happy in the long runLOL
If you go in remember to try and be in a patient mood. Everyone was nice, friendly and professional, but it was obvious they were quite busy, and had been for awhileLOL

LOL the promag made one was the one i was refering to in my original post as the "other brand". Couldn't remember the name and i'm always mixing up Promag, Magpul and Mecgar for some weird reason...
I've heard the Promag ones are useable if you add a Wolff mag spring, I might give that route a try for range use. Guess I'll just have to keep my eyes open for good dealsLOL

im sensing a bit of sarcasm coming from the lone gunman. its true that the 8 round capacity seems a bit lacking, but imo 8+1 should be enough to handle a self defense situation.

the single stack configuration makes the gun very slim and great for ccw. i have average sized hands and LOVE the feel of it in my hand. it points well and is just the right size for me. ive never been a fan of glocks. to me it feels like your handling a city bus.

the p6 is also an amazingly accurate pistol. i shoot better with my 4" p6 then with my 4" kimber pro carry 2. im not saying the p6 is more accurate then my nice 1911, im just saying that IM more accurate with my p6 then with my 4" 1911. its a great piece.

my p6 is also the easiest to field strip out of all my guns. it requires NO tools and can be done in 6 seconds. for someone who shoots often this is quite nice.

i paid centerfire $280 for it last year. probably the best firearm purchase ive made. cheers

Maxxwilde, Yep, the Pachmayer grips do make it a bit wider, but to me, it seems more rounded.

Ahh, I'll probably pass then. I'm pretty happy with the grip dimensions, as they are. Now, the grip MATERIAL...LOL I've never liked plastic.

These, on the other hand, are starting to temp me more and moreLOL I've a pair of Alumi grips for a 1911, and I like the feel of Aluminium quite a bit.

I know exactly what your saying! I'm more accurate with this gun, than others I've been firing for awhile. Dry fire practice has been going well and the sights just seem to line up naturally for me as well. Hope it stays that way if and when I get new sights.
I agree about CCW as well. Provided I can put a few hundred rounds through it without a problem, and can get at least ONE more trouble free Mag I'm thinking it'll be good for concealed carry when I get my license.
