CCW for *ahem* fat guys: which holster/position?

i would think someone 6'8" and 375lb could pretty much pocket carry a Desert Eagle without problems.

fwiw I'm not really very fat but I have a friend who's a little bigger and he carries in a Smartcarry, I didn't have a clue for years that he was carrying. I have a smartcarry on the way. ymmv.

I'm 6'4" and 250lbs and pocket carry definitely works best for comfort. But I find that I can stand the H&K USPC or Kimber UCDP in an Uncle Mike's Sidekick IWB as long as I'm not going to spend every moment sitting down. If driving, I'll switch sides to cross-draw. I even carry this way when biking sometimes.

fabrics, colors, etc...

For general CC use, consider to that a garment's color, thickness/design, shape, etc can aid in concealment. :D

That goes if you are 100lbs or 400lbs...;)

Many "gun stuff" companies like 5.11, Woolrich, etc have new shirts, fabrics designed to conceal weapons. Some look God awful, :barf:, but a few may have merit for long periods of CC...

I too am a member of the High Horsepower club! :)

I generally carry a Beretta 92FS in a fanny pack.

My boss introduced me to this style of concealment. At first, I thought it to be a bit silly, but after trying just about everything else, I found it to be the best way to carry.

I don't care what people think or say as I am protecting myself and my family. My daughter calls it my "murse" (man-purse). I usually wear it around my waist, but for quick trips to the grocery store, etc, I have been know to carry it like a purse. I bought a big enough one that holds my wallet and my blackberry.

I carry in my car when I travel to different job sites for work, but generally do not carry into the job site since most strongly discourage it, and I generally feel safe once I arrive. I find the fanny pack a convenient way to carry my weapon from the house to the car, etc. If I stop off say at Walmart or a parts house, I simply sling the fanny pack over my shoulder....

If I am forced, and I do mean forced to dress up, I use a Fobus belt holster which a wear slightly rearward of my right hip. I have found this to work very well, but you then cannot take off your sport coat until you are safely back in your own domain.

I also carry a Bersa Thunder 380CC on a belt holster. If I can wear my shirt untucked (which as a big guy I do 90% of the time), I use a left handed holster and place it in the small of my back on the right side. I found that easier when reaching behind to turn my palm towards my back to retrieve the weapon. It rides and hides welll carrying that way and is not bad even when seated or driving, though it is rather difficult to retrieve while strapped into the car, but I usually have my fanny pack laying on the seat next to me while driving.

I hope this helps.

Im a very big guy, so I just tuck my FNP-45 under my gut and it stays put. LOL JK..in all seriousness, I need something too, I just got my CHL class done (HOW BORING WAS THAT!) I'm guessing one of those belt bags for when I wear jeans, but at the moment, I don't think my FNP 45 is exactly good for CCW, I got it mainly for being in the truck, and home defense. I am looking into a compact glock later on once I bounce back from the cheddar this baby set me back.As far as losing the weight. I am limited because of a drunk driver hitting me, but I workout at Lifetime Fitness start of 20 mins on resistance bands to warm up, then 1 hour on weights, mainly upper body and lower back since my legs get a workout just from walking, and I can press the whole rack easily. Then I do 1 hour of cardio in the pool I have lost 64 lbs in about 7 months. I also just cut down on carbs, and eat a high fiber, high protein, moderate GOOD fat diet. Alot of water, low sodium, and eat alot of vegetables, lean fish and chicken. I noticed if I chew my food longer, it helps in feeling full faster.

I am a bigger chick, at about 5'10 with plenty of curves, I find I can conceal a GP100 with a 4" barrel under my ever day clothes in paddle holster at 3:00. It isn't the love handles that give me a fit, since they actually help with concealment, it is the butt of the grips pushing into the breast. I also trade off and carry a 1911 officers in a bianchi carrylok. My curves make it disappear completely with zero uncomfort.

P.S. This is for fall/winter carry as I have not carried in summer yet

I'm 6 foot and 225. I've been using a thunderware (like smartcarry) with a taurus 617. can't see it at all, but not the most comfortable to me. I know people that swear by them though.
I recently got a com-tac Mtac for my kimber ultra carry II. At 3:30 to 4:00 it is extremely comfortable and I can conceal it with an untucked over shirt (buttoned or unbuttoned). I think I could conceal with just a t-shirt, but haven't gone out of the house with that one yet.
The Mtac is the most comfortable holster I've found.

I went on Safari once but people kept ketting confused and pointing their rifles at me. Guess I shouldn't have worn that "rhino-grey" suit. LOL

Then don't go to to the beach.

There I was, laying on my towel when some people wearing GREENPEACE T-Shirts doused me with water, pushed me back into the surf screaming "Call SeaWorld, he's dying!"

I have a few questions first...

Does the "gut" hang over the front of the pants? If not, then a forward in pant holster could be ok...

How about your back? Small of the back holsters are comfortable, don't print too bad, and as long as it's still reachable could be a viable alternative...

Not to be funny, but I saw it mentioned in another thread (nudist camp one), about belly carrying.. I know there are belly straps... Just strap it on over your undershirt and under your overshirt... a quick lift and you have it.

Fat men have deep pockets and carry a snubby there, along with their candy bar.

You have no idea what you are talking about. You don't carry a candy bar in your pocket, it will melt.:neener:

A lil old, i know... but I didn't wanna start another thread...

Can anyone recommend a right handed 4" revolver (S&W 581) shoulder rig that has 1 or 2 speedloader pouches? I typically wear over shirts and when I get my ccw, i'd like it out of my waistband.

I'm 6'4 350lbs or so...

My daily carry is a CZ P-01 in a High Noon "Undertaker" rig, the weapon

To port and a two clip carrier to starboard.

It is extremely well made, is very comfortable, and has worn like iron.

Check 'em out.

Big Guys..

Well I'm 6'2" 275, I can still pack a government 1911 IWB at 330-4 with a good belt. I'm built oddly though 38" Waist 56L suit jacket.

Despite what people say, you can be fat and healthy. I'm 5'11 361lbs, I used to be a gym rat then when schedules changed the eating didn't. Bad cholesterol but otherwise clean bill o health. I've found the simpler the better. I carry a XD 40 service model in a DeSantis paddle holster, strong side at 1600. Just toss on an unbuttoned shirt over a black t shirt and no prob.

I also suffer from dunlaps desease, my gut has dun lapped my belt, try a PF-9 w/ belt clip at the 6:00 position. I known everyone will say ,"what if you fall , you'll break your tail bone!" Well it's been thirty years since I've fallen flat on my a**; I think it's worth the risk.

Rondog:
"I too, am a "girthy individual, and I've had good luck with my Beltster"

Ron, did it take a while for the small gun loop to stretch, or did you have to soak it and let it dry with gun in it?

I have a Beltster supposedly for a 1911 too, but the loop is so short and tight that it's near impossible to get my pistol into it when the belt is on and tight enough to hold up my pants. Yours looks like he made the loop diffrently - a lot more loop there.

I'd about given up on it until seeing your photo.

If you don't expect a fast draw situation, try a Krammer Leather mesh fabric tank top with a holster under each arm. I wear mine with snap front shirts for general going to town days, and even under white shire and tie on Sundays. About $50 I carry a very large frame 45 ACP under one arm and a spare magazine under the other.
