Ok I'm fat...:( ...carrying now while it's cooler is great in a belt holster that is concealed easily. But as it gets hotter and we wear less clothing,I was thinking about an IWB for my SP101...the peoblem is.....sweat.....I tend to sweat alot and I was worrying about it's effect on leather and the gun itself.....any ideas from the big guys????
Keep in mind it's an SP101 2.25in revolver....thanks:cool:

Hmmmm ..... well, I ain't over fat but ..... man, do I sweat!!! I am still coping with my paddle Fobus on waist whilst having a shirt to wear but ..... once it's T shirt time and shorts ...... always a headache.

Can't say I like IWB myself, anytime but .... last summer mostly resorted to my M85 snub in a wee little holster on waist and tried to keep long T shirts for cover. On occasions, resorted to fanny pack for same piece and in real tricky times, it was HP22 in pants pocket!

I have probs too on motor cycle .. just about to post on that to see what others think.

One word, Kydex. I am a big guy also. I use an IWB Kydex holster {Blade-tech}, and a Don Hume gunbelt for carry. My CCW gun is a Taurus PT111 with a stainless slide FWIW.

I carry a bucket around to make salt when I get home...

I am planning on getting something small enough for pocket carry in the Tucson summer. Either that, or always wearing my shorts with super huge pockets (they are almost big enough to hold a full size 1911) So a polymer pistol to prevent any soaking up through the pocket problems, either a Glock 26, or Kel Tec.

Same here, 6'3" @ 245 lbs, and I can't very well use the belly band I love so much when the weather gets hot and I change to shorts and tank-top. I'm thinking Kel Tec P-32 and a pocket holster.

Will that fit in a Uncle Mike's #1? Already have one for my PT-22.

I am fat too and carry a 4" 1911 in a Desantis #85 holster and I can cover it with a t-shirt, preferably dark in color and over-sized. I don't like IWB personally. Get a good belt and a good, high-position, holster with a forward cant so the grip stays tucked in and you'll be all set.

Tony,

As a fellow 'avoirdupois' challanged person, and living in Miami, I have found that for me, carrying outside the waist band works best. My mode of dress is to wear a colored tee, and over that, a Hawiian or other shirt worn unbuttoned. For years now, this has worked well.

I have carried easily, Colt 1911 handguns, as well as N frame revolvers with up to 6 inch barrels.

Yeah,I was considering a smaller gun in a pocket, but right now funds are low,and I really love my SP101.....I guess I'll just need to try a few different methods of carry and see what works...thanks
Right now I'm off to the range.........

well i picked up a don hume pcch for my 9000s yesterday, i got this for summer ...

it's iwb, but it has a body shield, which keeps the sweat off the gun and the gun from rubbing a hole, in the roll.... :p

they make the same holster for your gun....

Three words . . . .

Barami Hip Grip! http://www.baramihipgrip.com/index-2.html

Then no holster, stick it right in your waist band. At night dry it off, maybe a wipe of oil (very little), and you are ready for the next day. I would rotate my ammo a little more frequently though.

Additionally, I would also use a Tyler T-Grip with the Barami (beter feel when holding and shooting the gun).

I too am gravitationally challenged. I bought a S&W Model 37 J-frame. Its an Airweight so I guess its just an aluminum gun. It doesn't weigh anything. Anyways, I just bought an inexpensive Bianchin IWB leather holster, and I don't have problems with the gun or the holster. I find that leather is more comfortable than Kydex when carrying concealed IWB is involved.

For years I carried a 3" SP101 in an Alessi Talon IWB, then went to a 3" M37 in another Alessi Talon IWB. Sometimes now a KelTek 32 in the pocket (I'm waiting for their .380). John

I'm not overweight, just underheight.

It gets hot here in Texas. I usually wear blue-jean shorts so I have belt loops, use an IWB Sparks VMII on a Sparks 1 1/2" belt. This holster has a full shield on the inside, covering all of the gun. I wear a t-shirt with either a 'Camp' shirt untucked or a banded bottom Polo.

I get my holsters in either all horse hide or in horse hide on the inside panel and cow on the outside. I have no problems with sweat damaging either the holster or gun.

By the way, the combination of the blue jean shorts and the untucked shirt makes me even handsomer than usual, that is if you can see me for the glare off of my head.:D

Just a personal observation, I don't think it makes a bit of difference what size you are, in the Summer in Florida, you sweat. I find that the only thing I do is carry IWB, either with holster or "Mexican", Thick T-Shirt worn outside of shorts, and religiously every night remove grips and wipe and oil weapon.

I don't care what the Weapon is made of, if there are any steel parts in it, in Florida they will rust if neglected. The ten minutes I spend each night gives me peace of mind. FYI I carry a Para-Ordnance C7-45 year round.

this will be my first summer of concealed carry, and my high noon IWB is going to be tasked with the job.
i keep promising i'm going to lose the extra weight, but every time i get back into the workout routine something gets in the way of my progress, like a pizza, or a bbq with as many ribs, hotdogs, burgers, potato salad you could possibly dream about eating in one sitting.
its like nature is against me on this one. :banghead:

I am in hot territory now in Florida. I usually wear Sidearmor IWB with my 1911. I can wear a commander sized Baer or Kimber eclipse (stainless) and have it comfortable and disapear.

I usually prefer a colored T with jeans and good belt and an over shirt. If I have the overshirt I can wear OWB comfortably.

The sidearmor makes it so I can just use a T untucked to cover.

good stuff that Sidearmor!
