Saw someone make mention on another forum about using Meguiar's Scratch-x to give wood rifle stocks that nice glassy look. I couldn't find anywhere that describes how to do this though. Anyone tried it or know where I could get a how-to? The results looked pretty good for the effort invested.

Well, I was in the basement again scrounging for a "time-killer" and low and behold I have a bottle of meguiar's color-x. From what I could read online, it's a less abrasive version of the scratch-x. Tried it out on the stock under the barrel band in case it screwed it up. No adverse reaction, so I waxed the entire stock 4 times so far. Got it looking at least as good as a marlin 39a now, going for the total glassy look. Might look at the scartch x still and see what the difference is. Also used it on the receiver with good results. The receiver on my gun, btw, is painted (henry) and has some slight orange peeling. The wax seemed to smooth out the orange peel a good bit and added a nice shine to it to boot.

Definitely recommend it if you've got some spare time and elbow grease. I had to resist the urge to go down and get the orbital buffer! I even caught myself rationalizing it's use; "it's only a 6-inch wheel". The unoccupied human male brain is dangerous.
