I've "come across" an M1 Carbine, and I'm wondering when it was made. It's a Winchester, has a proof stamp on the buttstock that looks like the Springfield Armory logo, and has a serial number of 6622XXX. What can you guys tell me from the info I've provided? Also, the carbine is in excellent condition.

From the title i came here to say that:
It's time to stop kissing, and start f..........

But after reading the OP; I hope you're already in bed!

Id' have to get another look. The barrel seemed to have a "W" on it. I haven't had the opportunity to take it apart, and probably won't... it's not mine. Though I would get to shoot it often.

"...a good chance it's an all original rifle?..." Highly unlikely. 99.99% of all carbines were arsenal rebuilt after W.W. II. Weapons techs did not and do not care who made the part. They just grab one from the bin and install it. The carbines advertised as 'all original' were made that way by somebody with too much time and money.
