Recently over the past few months I seen quite a few 229's, 9mm at the range and I'm extremely impressed with the accuracy. In every case, different shooters at the range with different styles of shooting were getting consistent 2~4 patterns at the 25' target ranges. At first while watching them I thought it was just an good shooter but then other shooters came in and the accuracy was pretty consistent. I'm not sure if it was the way they designed the grips or the barrel. I did notice when I held and shot a couple of them the grip sort of "forced" the shooter to use the tip of their finger rather than rapping their whole finger through the trigger guard like most people do. I liked it and may try to get one, but in a .40SW. The only ones I seen and shot so far were the 9mm.

Don't know about the 9's but I have a .40 and it's a tack driver too. My estimation the 229's are possibly one of the best guns they have ever made. just my 2 cents worth@!@!!

Regarding where the finger engages....there is a "short" trigger available that is thinned out to give a shorter length of pull. I have short fingers and have them on all my P229's. Your finger shouldn't be "wrapped all the way in", nor should you just be catching the tip. I think you want full contact just beyond the first joint. see underscore

P229...

Have a couple of SIGs and CZs (great guns)... My two most accurate pistols, without question, are my CZ P-01 and my Sig P229 (both 9mm)... with my Sig P6, very close behind! The P-01 is my CCW gun... alittle lighter and just alittle less bulky than the 229... but would use either!
Highly recommend going to a range which rents these guns and HOLD 'EM and SHOOT 'EM!!!
Guns are expensive (NIB P229 about $750, CZ P-01 $550)... don't fall in love with 'mystique' and marketing image... Fall in love with the GUN!!
Good Luck.

If you want to see some real tack driving, get a P229 in 357 SIG.

That and some real muzzle flash. I'm not sure why a P229 in 357SIG would be more accurate than a 9x19mm or .40S&W version, but I'm all ears and always willing to learn.

flater trajectory.

with full power .357SIG (125grains@1450ft/sec) you can reach out to ~75 meters and your trajectory will never be above or below 1inch of the target.
with the other common calibers you can only do that out to 40-50 meters.

I was referring to standard pistol ranges, but if we're going to go there, we could talk about several cartridges with flatter trajectory than .357SIG at 75 meters. We could talk about pistol cartridges at 100 meters, 300 meters and 500 meters, but none of that would make any sense either.

My father shot competitively for years. 1911's and revolvers. He has owned just about everything except Glocks. In the end he carries, shoots, and has fun with a 40 229.

I am issued a Glock and don't really have a choice. But if my agency were to switch to Sig, I would be okay with it. The only trick is adjusting to that double action pull and keeping them clean. The 229 is definately more accurate than my Glock 22 or 23.

I also think it is the ideal size. Just big enough to feel like a real gun, but not oversized. You can still conceal it. Similar to the Glock 23, except it fits the hand.

I like my 229, but it is the least accurate of my handguns. I have short fingers and the grip is just slightly too large for me. I like it for many reasons, but the fabled accuracy doesn't turn out in my hands.
