Hello everyone,

I am a LEO and I recently purchased a Sig P229 .40 DAK for personal use. Although I like the weight, my scores have dropped a few points and I feel this is due to the large grip and revised trigger finger placement. I have since ordered the P229 Grip upgrade, but I have yet to have it installed. Any thoughts? Recommendations?

Joe

It might work...at least being LEO, you're not having to send it to the factory for the upgrade...but be aware that the E2 grip will place your hand lower on the gun than the original grips.

I've never had a problem with the 229 or 228 buttstock, may I ask which grip you are using and how you are placing your trigger finger?

A DAK trigger should be run just like you would a revolver trigger

Welcome to THR!

The DAK trigger has a unique hammer strut. The E2 grip system has a unique hammer strut.
I don't think the E2 grip will fit over the DAK hammer strut. Have you spoken to SIG about this?

SIG has no plans to introduce a DAK version that will be capable of using the E2 grip; there will be no DAK E2 conversions either. You should try one of the slim triggers they offer. I had a TJ's custom slim trigger on a 229 and it did help. Hogue makes aluminum grips that are supposed to be slimmer, but I have no experience with them.

"The Hogue aluminum or G10 grips are slimmer...just a bit spendy."

I had an opportunity to fondle a used P226 with the Hogue aluminums at a shop recently. Slimmer and less hump in the backstrap. Fit my hands much better - takes my strong thumb a hair further below the slide lock button which is a very good thing. The excellent checkering makes for a better grip also.

I'm sold on them but I think I'll go for the G-10. Can anyone verify that the G-10s are the same dimensions as the aluminum?

Spendy? Sigh... :banghead:

Hello Everyone,

Thanks for your thoughts. I have no personal knowledge about the DAK vs E2 grip replacement issue that some of you brought up. Personally, I haven't had a good experience with Sig's customer service so I'll probably put off calling until I really need to. Since my last email, a local gunsmith installed the new hammer strut and E2 grip in about 10 minutes and the weapon cycles with no problems. However, I did notice the area where the decocker would normally be is a bit empty on the left side of the new grip, but this is acceptable as long as I shoot better with it. If not, I'll put is up for sale and move on. As of now, the grip feels better. I'll let you know if it works out.

Thanks again.
