must-haves

I have always believed that there are three must haves;

one repeating .22 rifle, auto, pump, or lever.

one repeating 12ga shotgun, pump or auto

one repeating rifle in the .30 caliber range, an SKS is a good choice because of simplicity, durability, and affordable ammo.


This is this! It's not something else, it's this!

Accurate .22LR rifle; I prefer a bolt action.
12 gauge shotgun; prefer a pump with shot and slug barrels.
Accurate bolt action rifle; .308 or .30-06 ... maybe a .243.
.357 Mag revolver; I prefer a 4" barrel.

A bolt-action repeater rifle with telescopic sight that can engage and destroy your target past 300 yards, well past most troops marksmanship training and well past the effective range of fully automatic assault rifle fire. You have the small arms advantage, so keep your enemy beyond your battle sight zero.

3 rimfire .22 rifles:

2 repeating 3in. magnum 12ga shotguns:

Too bad this is only my "wish list"!

1. .22 lr rifle
2. 12 Gauge of some sort; I prefer the 870 w/ different barrels
3. Revolver: .357; I prefer the GP-100
4. Pistol for CCW: I like a bunch, but my "musts" include 1911 or BHP (or CZ75)
5. Carbine: I like the Sig 556, but would "take" an AK or AR, in that order
6. Hunting Rifle: .30-06 or .270 w/ a good scope.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but with that collection you're pretty well rounded and have a firearm for a variety of situations.

Suicide*Ride has comipled a good list. +1 to that. I'd add that everyone should own at least one authentic P.38 (a war model, not the P1) and at least one German-made Walther PPK. A Ruger 10/22 and either a Ruger Mark I, II, or III also would be on a the well-stocked owner's list. Add a Winchester lever-action carbine, a quality Remington pump, a Browning over-and-under shotgun, a Colt 1911 .45, and you are starting to get dressed for the dance.

How 'bout the Garand?

On second thought, every Garand owner needs to sell theirs. With the extreme surplus we would have I could afford to buy as many as I wanted. 40-50 ought to do it.

I figure every gun owner should own seven guns. Inside bubbles are my choices for these.

Rifles:
1-22lr rifle (Marlin 60)
1-semi-automatic defensive rifle (Converted Sagia in 7.62x39)
1-bolt action scoped rifle ( Savage .308 with accu-trigger)

Shotgun:
1-shotgun with long barrel and short barrel. 2 round extension preferable with short barrel. (Winchester 1300 speed pump 12 ga.)

Handgun:
1-22lr handgun ( Ruger Mark 3 22/45)
1-full or compact size handgun (Glock 19)
1-pocket gun (Keltec p3at)
(handguns if easily attainable and pocket gun if you CCW.)


I purchased all of these for under two thousand but this was over a the past few years so prices are different and it doesn't include money for magazines.

it really does not matter what centerfire you have but an absolute must is reloading equipment, in this day and age if your not you should be.

I think everyone should have A shotgun, A rifle, And A handgun. the type and caliber will depend on where you live and your level of commitment.

For starts a sturdy .22 LR bolt action rifle with iron sights and which has as few moving parts as possible.

After that, just about anything that will fill in the three gun combo of a rifle, shotgun, and pistol, preferably obtained in that order.
