Shot a CZ 75B on Monday - first time with the CZ. NOW I understand what the fuss is all about.

I've toyed with the idea of them, off & on, having just held them. Having shot it, it's moved up considerably on my "gotta get" list.

I'm a lefty, so the -85 is what I would prefer, if I stick with the DA/SA trigger. I know the -75SA is also ambi safety.

Question...for a range gun and occassional carry weapon, would I be better served with the 85 or the 75SA? The trigger in DA mode is too far forward for me to shoot DA. I had to shoot it SA. If I were to carry it, I would either have to carry it cocked & locked (like the SA) or thumb the hammer back before firing.

Would THR suggest pursuing the 85 or 75SA for what I describe? FWIW, other carry weapons will include a 1911, Ruger SP101, and - hopefully - a KelTec PF9. I have an M&P9 that may be up for trade fodder; a woman at church really wants it and is willing to pony up near NIB price for it.

I have the 75 C compact otherwise known as the PCR. With the Kadet kit you get a .22 as well. Love my CZ. Shoot one and you understand.

I have not shot an SA, so cannot offer comments on trigger length. However, I carry my 75s cocked and locked. I have fairly small hands and do not have a problem with the DA pull. Sort of each to his own. Enjoy your pistol and shoot the heck out of it!

I prefer the PCR for carry, but the 75B is one sweet shooting gun! I can and have carried it with a strong belt and good IWB (Crossbreed) holster. The trigger reach on the PCR is not bad from the decocked position. They are definitely a must have in your collection.

The trigger is still a bit forward when you carry the 75SA cocked n locked.

Go for the 85B or 85 Combat if you can find one.

A couple of thoughts:

1. The 75B Stainless also has a ambi-safety, so that's an option as well.

2. Did you happen to shoot the 75B from the half-cock position? The hammer has three positions: fully-cocked and SA; half-cocked and DA; hammer-down and DA. The trigger position is somewhat shorter in half-cocked compared to hammer-down.

3. I don't own any of the compact models, but some have commented that the P-01 (alloy compact frame with decocker,) has a shorter reach to the trigger compared to the full-size 75/85 frame. So if you're thinking about this as a carry gun, you may want to try out a P-01 before you buy.

Good luck on your purchase. I currently own one CZ (a 75B stainless) but will getting a compact model at first opportunity.

It was a stainless 75B; I didn't notice an ambi safety.

I shot it from full-cock, true SA form.

I like my M&P in theory; but, I consistantly shoot low even when focusing so hard on the front sight it almost hurts my eyes. I dip the gun that last split-second moment before the seer breaks. I suspect it's a trigger issue for me, because I shoot my 1911 well and I shot that CZ well also.

Adding to the difficulty...

Found a used model 85B for $450.
Found a brand new model 75B SA for $450.

Realistically, 90% of the time, use would be range time.

Both are hard to find; this is the first 75 SA I've even seen for sale, new, in a long time.

I've got the 75D PCR and 75B plus the Kadet kit I use on both. GREAT pistols.

I guess I'd go with the 85B

or the 85 Combat, because I like the options of SA or DA or Half Cocked. With the 75SA, it is only SA. Of course that is just my opinion. I think it all boils down to personal preference. I really don't think you could go wrong as long as you do get a CZ.

Don't thumb the hammer back for the first shot. That's just a poor practice in general and under stress can be more difficult to do then you think.

If the trigger is too far forward for you in DA mode, with the hammer at half-cock (as it would be after you lowered the hammer on a live round), then just carry it SA with the safety "On."

Ditto on half cock, the gun was designed to be carried that way, and that's how I do it. I carry a P01 and PCR, great pistols. Go for a CZ, bet you won't be disappointed.

weird , my 75B (DA/SA) 40 S&W came with an ambi safety , and i shoot it lefthand with no problems...

CZ 75 is a great series of guns..Alot of people here helped me in my endeavors in my first purchase of one as well. If you are interested in buying one of mine, shoot me a PM. :)

My 75b SA is actually making me want to get rid of my Glock for everything except carry. IPSC, speed steel the CZ is the perfect gun. I love the gun and have finally found a gun that is hands down 100 x more accurate than I am. But I think, my preference, would be to have a SA for carry I would rather have another safety on it, like the 1911 has. Not to say it is not safe for a SA gun to be carried. But that extra little safety cannot hurt. I see the prices went up a little since January, but when I got mine my local dealer could not get it as cheap as I could from Angus Hobdell. http://czcustom.com/CZ-USA-Pistols.aspx

I just shot a CZ 75B for the first time yesterday and it truly
is a great gun. I shot a Beretta 92fs next to it for comparison.
The Beretta is fine but the CZ is much more the natural
pointer and a lot less chunky. I had to learn how to shoot the
Beretta well but I shot the CZ naturally well.

As for the DA trigger, you may just get used to it. I mainly
shoot a DA revolver so CZs DA trigger didn't bother me so much.
Now switching from DA to SA after the first shot will take a bit
of time to feel natural.

To be clear, the problem is not the DA to SA transition.

It's that my trigger finger cannot physically reach the trigger in the at rest, DA position. I can barely touch the side of the trigger with my finger - that's how short my finger is! I'm curious to try it in the half-cock position and see if that helps.

My CZ 75 SA with Kadet Kit installed and CZ 75-SP01.
Had them both out to the range this morning. Simply wonderful pistols.

To be quite honest, if the DA trigger is so much a failure for you, just don't CCW the gun. Keep it for range use, as you obviously like it. Carry something with a smaller trigger reach for CCW.

CZ makes a nice gun, no doubt. We have a CZ40P, and an old CZ75, no suffix. However, like any other gun, they are NOT one-size-fits-all.:D
