is $89 cheap for a yukoslovic (yes I know it's probably wrong) mn? I'm wanting to buy one and a sporting goods store has a couple for that price.

new England westinghouse and Remington MN

Does anyone have one of these,?Or has anyone ever seen one,,
A buddie of mine bought one each, years ago.AT a gun show..I thought why in the world would you want them, when they have some much nicier guns,at the show. Like bunches and bunches of Aks. and sks's,I guess he knew more I did,,Now I wished I would have bought one, instead of one of my sks's

You have a New,, New England Westinghouse.? When did you get yours?

And where?

Im going to have my brother check out a shop up in Maine, its a trading post.they seem to have some of everything,,last time i was in the shop they had over 100 model 12 winchesters,so I know they may have some MN's.

You're probably not going to like this bit of news... :(

I got my NEW about 15 years ago from a department store called "Rose's" (I think that's how it was spelled) in Hattiesburg, MS. It had been re-arsenaled in Finland at least once. I paid $42.35 after taxes. It came with it's bolt tool, cleaning brush and rod, ammo pouch, and oil can. I had to get a bayonet separately.

There's a long story behind this bad boy. It's had a rough life and needed some serious TLC. It's a keeper, that's for sure.

I'd guestimate they're probably going for $350.00~$400.00 now.

damn i like the westing house and remingtons, I wished I would have picked them up when they were around,Years ago when I was a kid all that stuff were in 55 gal drums for little of nothing, even m1s and carbines, along with mousers,Joe the Motorist friends was one place, the other was a store called Millers auto supply,,Before the Duhmuns went toes up in my area they would sell.surplus. but they closed up now,
Im waiting for my C-R to come then im good to go.only problem is you buy unseen,,GUN shows are best but I dont have one coming to my area untill may,

when ever someone shows up at the range with one of the 44s..I move to the other end,,they are so loud, why is that,, the 31s arent like that,,is it the shorter barrle.

scoping the MN

jpwilly

Just scrolling thru the site and noticed your reply to me. I used the process as outlined by Jamie Mangrum - a side rail base from InterOrdnance, the bent bolt from TnGunParts, and a POSP scope I got on a trade, works great, not an original but works!!

I'd like to join the MN club. Is the only condition that we have to own an MN? I've got that far, but I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.

$99 dollars for a like-new, cosmolined rifle. At first I was ecstatic, then I was frustrated cleaning all that gooey, slimy gunk off of it. Now I'm pretty happy again :D .

comparing mini-30 & MN

No certifiable comparison to be made.

the mini-30 = a carpenters hammer.

the MN 91/30 = a 10# sledge hammer!!:what:

New Mosin Owner

New to me anyway .......:D I just picked up a ROMANIAN MODEL 1944/55 NAGANT BOLT ACTION CARBINE. Numbers match except for the bolt and the bore seems in pretty nice shape. I bet it took me 30 minutes of cleaning before the patches didn't come out dirty. Is the Romanian Mosin average in quality or is it one of the better ones? I can't wait to get a chance to shoot this rifle a bit and see what it will do at 100 yards. Is there any ammo deals available on the 7.62x54 right now that isn't corrosive and in reloadable brass? Thanks for any info ..........:).

G'Day from Down_Under

I'm just in the process of going through getting my gun license. And for the last month have been researching, ie looking at pictures and drooling of the 91/30... and it seems to me that a lot of the different models look very similar.
What am i looking for to confirm a 91/30?? I'm looking at an MN at the moment that has a production of 1954... the furniture is in almost perfect condition and the bolt is so smooth. I noted the bolt and receiver match numbers, i didn't know to look for more serial numbers but i am thinking i will when i go out and look at it again, and most likely put a deposit on it.
Have just looked at another website and it would appear to be an M44. It's shorter than the SMLE my b/f is getting and has the folding bayonet. What sort of $$'s should this model be attracting? it looks externally to be immaculate. I've been told around AU$400.
It comes with a bayonet and cleaning rod (atleast i'm pretty sure what i am looking at sitting under the barrel) but is missing a sling... I'm in Australia if that means anything but do you know of anyone who sells mail order/online for replica slings?

I think it's going to be pretty funny that my first ever gun will be an MN... not the typical .22 or air rifle that makes up the most numbers in the first gun club.

Like i said i've been looking at pictures online for the last month and had my heart set on one and today i got to hold one. It just felt right. Now i really have a fire under my butt to get the paper work handed in so it will be mine for real. I'm going to be putting a deposit on it this week and my boyfriend will put in an application to acquire on his license the day i put my paper work through to the firearms registry.

I know it's gonna have a kick on it but how will it compare to a 243 or 30-30 which i just love playing with?

Are there any other women here who play with the big guns??

Thanks for that.

I have contacted the seller asking if they post international. I'm still waiting on a reply.

I'm looking forward to going and seeing the gun again tomorrow after work... will take pics to to help me ID the exact area it came from. All i know is its 1954 and that 2 of the numbers match and over all condition has me thinking it might all match which has me excited.

I should also have a letter from my dr giving me the ok on a medical side.... i was on anti-deps for a couple of weeks late last year when my grandfather fell very ill. So i shouldn't have any issue with my own license. Either way it will initially go on my b/f's license.

I am so excited. It's not the exact model i was after but i think this one would fit in my arms better.

I am now the very proud owner of a Polish M44.

The furniture is immaculate and it was unknown until today the condition the bore was in... its immaculate as well.

Have had someone else look at it and he believes that it may have only ever been test shot. No wear marks at all.

All 4 numbers match. Is there anyway to try and find the history of the gun other than its Polish?

I took some pics today but as i'm going away for a long weekend i may not get to put the pics up until i get back.

With the condition it is in i will most likely stick to Western ammunition rather than risk damage with corrosive Eastern Block ammo.

I am sooo excited.

quote Umm, i'm actually 1 happy chick, lol.

haha!Well I guess some of us stereotype sometimes assuming it is a guy posting, there are many women into shooting sports but still posting wise it tends to be men more than women.

But meh,me for example,I'm a long haired Ozzy looking dude, one time I was driving a convertable and some dude was tailgating me and I could see him in the mirror hunched over the steering wheel trying to get a look.He gets beside me thinking he was gonna get a shot of cleevage and when he realized I was a guy he had a look sorta like this ---> and this--->:barf: bahaha!!!

Anyway great looking rifle,
