Ol' Joe, I bought half a dozen boxes of that S&B 230gr FMJ you linked to at
Natchez, for about $12 a box, a year ago, from Cheaper Than Dirt, via
the 'net.:)
How times have changed.
But it does look like things are getting better. I saw a Cabella's ad
in the paper last week, and they were advertising all kinds of ammo.
Not cheap, mind you, and it seemed like .45acp was the most outrageously
overpriced,:banghead: but they had it for sale.

Walter

Finding .45 ACP is becoming harder. Let's face it, unless it's in use by a Military or Law-Enforcement Agency, pistol ammunition will become hard to find, and when found will not be cheap.

Hence why it's a good idea to get into reloading.

My son can't find .45acp locally.
I found some Magtech at a range where I was practicing.
I could only buy him ONE box at .50+ a round

Today my local wally world had plenty of .223, 12 gauge 00 buckshot in 2.75 and 3 inch shells (15 rd packs), a few 12 gauge slugs, quiet a few boxes of .40, 2 boxes of .357 sig that they have had for like a year, and like 3 big boxes of 22. They also seemed to have a decent supply of .30-30 and .30-06 but I can't remember the last time I seen .308 in my local store.

Couple weeks ago they got in some .45 acp FMJ and I bought the 3 100 rd packs they had when I got there (29.95 a box). Bout 3 weeks before that they had some Winchester white box hollow points I picked up.

Is it getting better the ammo supply? Well if you shoot .223 you should have no problem finding it on the shelf anywhere ya look. If you shoot anything else good luck.

The .45 acp is FAR from extinct tho. There are tons of guns being churned out around the world chambered for the round, and I simply don't believe just because there is a shortage of ammo that it is any more extinct than the 9mm or .308 missing from the shelf beside it.

Ammoman.com has some, plus if you take a ride down to south Jersey, you can pick it up to save shipping.

I am puzzled why would the fact that they record your ammo purchase stop you from buying it. If you have nothing to hide it's not a issue. I have to sign to buy tylenol#1's around here even so ammo would not be a issue.

Because if, god forbid, I ever had to use my weapon, the last thing I'd need is a civil suit saying "HE BOUGHT 150 ROUNDS OF EVIL YOUNG MINORITY AND/OR COP KILLING SEMI ASSAULT MILITARY STYLE BLACK HANDGUN ROUNDS PREPARING FOR WAR" My ammo is my own business, I'm a law abiding citizen.

I placed an order for 500pk canned heat of 10mm at about the middle of April. My order was shipped before Memorial Day so the delay was pretty much spot on with what was posted on their website (4 to 8 weeks IIRC)

It's weird. New York, New Jersey and Maryland all surround Pennsylvania, and are some of the most farged up, restrictive states in the union. Pennsylvania sits like an oasis in the middle of the left-wing loon desert of those states.
I reload, so I can't say I feel your pain. I feel bad for you and others who are struggling to find ammo right now, but I saw the handwriting on the wall over a year ago and made the plunge in reloading and don't regret a bit.
45acp is the easiest to reload, IMO, and starting to aquire reloading equipment is probably not a bad idea..if you can find it.

Here in Alabama, we have a pretty good supply of 45, 40, 9mm, 38, 357, etc etc. We don't have 380 fmj, we have lots of 380 high performance which is really too expensive to just waste at the range (unless you're testing it). I just got in 4 boxes of 380 i ordered 2 months ago from Cabelas. I love my little Bersa 380. A smooth shooter and quite accurate. I found boxes of winchester white box self defense 45acp for 18.99 a box at Walmart last week. I didn't know it was 'special' ammo until i looked at the first round. it shot great and was pretty darned cheap for 45.

I just bought a can of Endust. That's the only thing my GC, SA Loaded &
S&W DK have seen for a while. Not good in Montco Pa.

Noting that you are from Quebec... In America, we have the right to privacy (or are suppose to) and many Americans just prefer to remain private. For most of us, it has nothing to do with hiding what we are doing but more to do with controlling the information and how it's going to be used. When you grow up thinking that privacy is a precious resource, you tend to want others to mind their own business. Just my 2cents.

@OP,
Learn to reload my friend. I just bought enough supplies for 1000 9mm and 1000 .40 at the show this weekend. Another one is coming up at the first of the month and I'll probably buy more.

45 is far from extinct. the proof is that everyone is buying the rounds. a few months ago my walmart had a few boxes of 45's i bought one. it was the first time in 8 months that they had 45's. gone again.

.45 ACP isn't extinct, it is just being re-labeled as 11.43 ACP under the new "Conversion to Metric" program that Obama promises will reduce green-house gas emissions and end the recession.

I had the same with Cabelas on .45 ACP, .357 Magnum, and .44 Magnum, but it was worth the two month wait to save on the cost over even what Walmart had to offer (Winchester or Blazer, no thanks I'll take my Federal or Brasstech). Waiting can be the hardest thing to do but that's just the reality we are dealing with. So long as you get it, having to wait a few months shouldn't be that big a deal. Just order 500-1000rnds at a time so when you hit the half mark on your stash you can just reorder again before you run out. Even what I've ordered through my FFL guy takes three to four weeks to get my hands on.

I ordered 500 rounds of .40 and 500 of .38 spl. from them back in November. They .40 arrived on time but I told them (stupidly) to cancel the .38 because it was backordered. Now the wait is even longer.

The ammo was good stuff (all nickeled brass), and the free ammo can was nice, but they have gone up slightly on the price to where it's actually cheaper to buy .40 S&W at Wal-Mart, if you can find it. Last I checked, Blazer Brass 180 gr. was under $13 a box, and so was Federal. WWB and Remington are $17 for some reason though.

What's pissing me off are dealers who continue to advertise ammo for sale when they have none in inventory. Why send me an ad in the mail advertising ammo that you do not have in stock? How is this smart business?

Any ideas where to get 1,000 rounds 9mm fmj within a couple weeks? Taking a defensive pistol class in mid August.

Another response to Post #1111, why we are reluctant to have our ammunition purchases recorded with our personal identification by the government:

Quite simply, it can serve no purpose beneficial to us, and besides, it's none of their business. What should we do, keep records on how and when we fired each round?:fire:

Natchez does have some Federal FMJ, but I went with Grafs for a much lower price on Fiochi.
