.308 Garand ammo?

Would a .308 Garand be picky with ammo or would it eat everything like a Saiga?

I really want a garand but I want a .308 that will just make everything I throw at it, including South African Battle packs, go bang.

If you intend to feed your Garand milsurp or ammo loaded to milsurp spec's (i.e. no heavy bullets or slow powders), then it will be just fine. Most commercial ammo in a Garand is a no-no.

I've shot several thousand rounds of surplus .308 through my M1 without any problems, including South African, Indian (I know, I know...), Portuguese, and Australian.

I've got an Orion 7 .308 Garand and it has eaten PRVI, BH 175 gr, and 175gr reloads. No problem at all. Even asked when I got it and they said it would be fine with either surplus or match ammo.

Well, a .308 Garand isn't as problematic because its loading was adopted as a NATO spec, and it can fire this universal ammo. Finding ammo that works right in a .308 Garand is relatively easy.

I use NATO spec ammo in my 308 Garand. Keep i n mind changing the caliber doesn't have any effect on the gas system and depending on the size of the gas port. In short, I'd stick to NATO ammo and get an adjustable gas plug if I intended to shoot a variety.

South African, Indian (I know, I know...), Portuguese, and Australian.

All of this ammo is NATO spec as it was made to run in FALs.

I don't think so. I think everything else has just caught up to the higher prices.

I've shot a few boxes of 168gr Federal Gold Medal through it too, but not a steady diet.
