Yesterday I was able to purchase over the internet a bunch of MagPul P-Mags.

20 rounders -- $10.46 each
30 rounders -- $11.21 each

I've also seen GI contract for as little as $8 each.

This is far less than I was able to get them before the panic.

I also see that stripped AR lowers are back down to less than $90!

I think the panic is over, and the producers have almost caught up with the back orders. With excess inventory, and an economy that is causing a lot of folks to slow down their purchasing we may be in for a time of bargain prices.

I have observed the slowing of first time gun owners purchasing guns ahead of a perceived ban, and fully stocked gun shows and retailers.

Is it possible that a lot more prices will continue to fall to levels below those of 2007?

This may just be the start. I feel if the economy does not improve, and no major gun legislation gets traction, some of those owners who went out and purchased their first guns as a hedge against a ban, may take a loss and sell, (especially if they did not become active in the sport).

This coupled with less demand, and high inventories, it will probably only get better.

Yahooo, :D

Are you saying that a "BUBBLE" exists in the firearms market?

I think you are correct. The firearms market is the same as any other market operating under the invisible hand of supply and demand.

Now that the 'panic' has subsided a bit, there should be some very good deals forthcoming, as people who overbought, and companies that overproduced will get anxious over their high inventory levels. High inventory levels=lower prices.

I get the feeling that some of the ammo hoarder's that fell prey to the panic and bought ammo at it's peak price will begin to liquidate their inventory (investment) as they see prices begin to fall. Ultimately, prices may be driven down further than the pre-panic levels due to the excess inventory.

Those of us who did not panic will benefit.

I love economics! :D

I bought enough supplies and whatnot to NEED to buy a single thing since this all started. I'm still using the 30rd USGI mags I bought for $9/ea.

The thing I was really excited about was seeing US made PS90 50rd magazines for $30 instead of FNH's $80.

This may also mean your equipment/supplies that you now hold will also be worth less than you paid for them several years ago in the near future!!:what:

Beat the rush to sell- PM me NOW and I will take this useless stuff off of your hands before it is worth nothing.:D:D

Ok FROGO207, I will deal with you on that. I've got a bunch of DPMS and Stag stripped lowers that I will let you have for prices effective January 1, 2009.

How many do I need to go buy .........I mean dig out of my stash, yeah that is it, get from my stash??:neener:

Del-Ton had them with a 25% off with a coupon code. I just checked and the promotion ended yesterday. If I get another code, I will PM you.

The bubble may have burst on line but around here the stores and many gun show vendors still have one last desperate grip on the bubble. I hope the greadier ones get screwed and especially the Walmart ammo dealers who cleaned out Walmart and then doubled and tripled their prices.

At least now I can seriously start looking again at building an AR for a reasonable price.

There is still a lot of pending legislation. I was too young to care during the last AWB, but will the 'bubble' not fully deflate so long as their is a concerted effort from the left to initiate new 'reform'?

I sure hope thats what happens. especially to sks and the kel tecs. I recently found a norinco for 199, yeah amazing. yet 7.62x39 is still 8 bucks a box locally, although nothing else really went up in price.

Just wait until next election. As soon as there is even a hint that Obama is going to get re-elected, I'll bet we see a panic 3 or 4 times as bad as this first one was. :banghead::fire::barf:

Not to turn this into a political discussion... but a bit of history with regard to firearm and ammo prices and what may be in store for the future.

It is interesting that Bill Clinton, when asked the question "What was the biggest mistake of your presidency?"

His reply had nothing to do with a blue dress or interns... He responded...

"The Crime Bill of 1994." because it lead to the Republicans retaking both the House and the Senate due to outraged voters. From that point forward, the President was unable to set the agenda for the country.

Given that huge defeat... Does anyone think the party in power will try again? I think they are just crazy enough to do it. :uhoh:

So... I don't think this rollercoaster ride is over yet...

Prices will continue to fluctuate according to the direction of the political winds.

But... for now, it looks like the initial 'panic-buying' is over. Hopefully prices will start to return to normal... until the next panic. :)

They need to make a version of that show "realestate intervention" for gun dealers...

In ref to the high prices still on the market...
"In a downturning market, it's better to set the market than follow it."

Showing a dealer another dealer's shop / table...
"This dealer has Colt 6920's for $1200, if you were the consumer, would you buy a Colt 6920 from your shop / table for $1699?"

I think the bubble has temporarily busted.

But fret not, if you have bought an AR for exorbitant prices recently. With the current administration, it is just a matter of time until someone high up mutters something about a new AWB, and the bubble will reappear.

If you bought an AR recently, you probably bought when the market was at a peak. Just wait, there is no way Obama will go four years without trying something, and when he does, you will see prices back up to new highs.

It will depend on the results of the mid-term elections.

Ammunition is still in short supply everywhere, but I suppose slightly better than it was. However, there seem to be some people who have had their ammo woes nearly completely healed. Prices are still crazy, though!

Given that huge defeat... Does anyone think the party in power will try again?

yes

1. because it is what they do
2. the ones that were voted for the crime bill learned one of two lessons
a. they are still there so voting for another one won't hurt
b. they were voted out
those who were voted out have been replaced by new representatives.
they know why they are there.

however many of them have been replaced by even newer representatives.

those new representatives have not had a lesson to learn.

I'm glad to see things in the AR industry starting to catch back up, now I can get a head start on my AR-15 build...but with the fall in demand for AR parts and whatnot the demand for other things goes up. I'm not too happy I have to wait until Feb/ Mar of 2010 to get a Kimber stainless TLE II...and as for the ammo situation, it gets pretty expensive using JHP's for plinking. A buddy of mine that reloads told me he hasn't been able to get primers for almost 4 months.

I know, at least locally, ammo is becoming more available, even seen it online on sale, LGS had AR's on sale last time I was in there and they had several. But I agree with others if the great O speaks the ban word, prices will go thru the roof. But we will see if they learned from the last time or not.

Given that huge defeat... Does anyone think the party in power will try again? I think they are just crazy enough to do it.

Yes, they will try it again. Remember when Clinton was president, they tried to pass Health Care Reform. Hillary was a huge spokesperson for this. That idea was soundly put down, and this marked the beginning of Clinton's loss of political power.

Obama resurrected Health Care Reform, only to have even a worse response from the American people. So why would he not make the same mistake with a new AWB?

At my favorite little gun shop the 08/09 panic has been offset by guys having to cash in part of their gun collections due to the economy. More nice consignment guns for sale than I've seen in awhile. Generally don't buy previously owned handguns but so far this year I've picked up 2 beauties (a CZ and a Beretta) at very attractive prices.

Last several gun shows I saw fewer sales being transacted and lots more inventory out on the tables, especially Glocks for some reason.
