You know how sometimes even when you buy something you really wanted for awhile but you still feel a bit of buyers remorse just because you spent the money? I don't feel any of that about this rifle! It's beautiful.

Although its not the biggest caliber available, I don't feel "Naked" anymore. :D

A word of advice -- Clean it very well before you go, it may seem clean now but there's junk from machining the gun, etc in there, also it's a good idea to have a look how it works so you're familiar with it!

Shoot that box dry, and clean it again then you're all set for the rest of your life!

My first was a 10/22 as well. :)

The factory rotary magazine seems to be fine if you leave it loaded but with most high capacity magazines don't leave them loaded over time. Great first gun though. I'm sure you will get lots of enjoyment out of it.

Just a quick question, I don't have a case or bag for it just yet, Would it be ok to transport it to and from the range in the box it came in?

Great Choice!!!

Like many other people have said, great choice for a first gun!!

I bought a 10/22 as my first gun about 4 years ago and have since bought 2 other guns and the 10/22 is the one i shoot most (ammo prices get to you after a while if its not .22).

I wouldn't modify it if i were you. Keep that thing exactly the same, its such a beautiful rifle. I modded mine cause it was the cool thing to do at the time, but since then its gone back to exactly how it was when i bought it.

I would recommend some bigger magazines if they are legal where you live. The tactical innovations from tacticalinc are very good. i got the composite steel lip ones and they are absolutely incredible magazines. Just search google for "tactical inc composite steel lip"

Have fun with your new gun!!!

The 10-22 is one of the best all around plinking rifles you could get. I had one for my 1st rifle. Cost all of $80 new in the box back then. Sold it to keep my butt out of jail.
I should have kept it and done the 5 days in jail. I've always wished I'd never sold it.
Keep the mods reasonable. Work for a better shooting rifle to start, then rebuild it from there. They are vey accurate, and you can get some really good modifiers to improve it even more.

Stick with CCI Mini Mags and you will rarely have a jam or misfire. The 10-22's love CCI ammo

Enjoy!

Nice choice, it was my first firearm as well. Here was mine the day that I bought it. Picked up the 500 round box of Remington ammo you're talking about (the solid ones that you wanted) and went out and shot it at a friend's farm.

After putting a few thousand rounds through it, I ordered the Tuffer Buffer to replace the bolt stop pin that was loose, switched the stock out, and the next addition is a scope...

Now it looks more like an "evil black rifle" hehehe...

I have a 10/22 exactly like yours. My dad gave it to me 23-24 years ago, it's had a ga-zillion rounds through it and still shoots great. Keep your new rifle clean and well maintained and it will last you forever.

congrats

I got my first 10/22 this year as well.

the 'ranch' style fold-down rear sight can be improved. if you're not doing a scope, check out: http://www.tech-sights.com/ and their 10-22 link at left.

it uses the scope mount screw holes in the top of the receiver for it's rear sight, and there are front post sights to replace the stock one (normal or heavy barrel).

enjoy!

Excellent choice for a first rifle. The Remington 22 ammo is horrible, though. You might get lucky and find it works ok, but it you get a lot of jams, blame the ammo not the gun.

Congratulations, indeed!! I'm 50 yrs old next week, and just got my first 10/22 last year! I've owned guns since I was 12, and have owned all kinds of guns, but finally got the .22 rifle that is known the world over. Very nice start...and keep posting your experiences and purchases.

Personally I would skip adding a new sight (though tech sites are nice), learn to shoot it with open sites only, then scope it later on. A .22LR just begs for optics. :)
