Other than being nostalogic for the old Colt mustang I cannot understand why anyone would want one of these over an lcp.
I have both and like both, but the Sig shoots much differently than the LCP. I carry the LCP because I don't want a manual safety on a pocketgun, the wife carries the P238 because it is much easier to shoot and she doesn't mind the safety.
The differences in weight and ergonomics make the P238 a
much softer shooter than the LCP. The LCP shoots like one would expect of a plastic mousegun. It feels like it's trying to 'jump' out of your hand when you pull the trigger. Doesn't bother me all that much, but my wife can barely hang onto it when shooting one-handed. There's nothing "wrong" with it, it is just a VERY light pistol and there is some trade-off involved with that. The Sig, however, shoots much more like a 'real' gun. I remember how surprised I was when I shot the first few rounds out of it. It is downright pleasant to shoot. Much more controllabe, particularly in one-handed/rapid fire. The extra weight is a good trade-off, in my opinion, especially for shooters who might not spend the appropriate amount of time behind the trigger. I could see my wife firing the LCP one-handed and losing control of it, or at the very least being wildly inaccurate. The P238, however, inspires much more confidence. Therefore, she carries the P238 and I carry the LCP.
I love Rugers and will never sell my LCP... but unless the very slight difference in weight is that important to you, or you strongly prefer a mousegun with no safety (like me), it is hard to argue that it is in the same class as the P238. If the way the gun actually shoots is any consideration at all, then there is a good reason to choose the P238 over the LCP. Now, if someone makes a gun that carries like the LCP and shoots like the P238, I'm all ears!
