I just bought a P238 two-tone with night sights this week and took it to the range for the first time today. Goodness, what a facinating little gun. It ran without a flaw. Recoil was much less than my little Kel Tec 3AT, in fact it was really fun to shoot. The most amazing thing about it though was how accurate it is. I honestly shot it as well as my P226 and P239!! Here is a picture of my best 5 shot group. It is just under 1.5 inches at 15 yards. Yes, on this group I did have my hand resting on a sand bag, but still not bad for 45 feet, huh?! ------- Any way, I was very impressed with this little .380.

Thats about how my review of the gun went also. And i made a point of just how fun the gun is to shoot.
I did have accuracy issues, but that was due to the sights being off.I adjusted them but have yet to retest them. But even shooting and compensating for the sights i had some great groups.
It also gave me some confidence in the .380 caliber itself the way the gun handled.
Look for some Hornady Critical Defense ammo for SD if you can find it.

I had read that some people had trouble with the P238, I was glad there were no malfunctions of any kind. Again, it was a blast to shoot. Too bad 380 ammo is so ridiculously high. Anyone, know of any reasonable 380 ammo?

I found some decently priced 380 at luckygunner.com. Stay away from their military industries or whatever it's called though. Lots of failuers to fire and it was not particularly accurate. I do like the american eagle fmj I got there. It's very accurate through the P238 and had zero problems in about 200 rounds.

Just recently put 50 rds. through my new P 238 and my results were flawless also. I only have a concern about trigger pull. My Sig has over 10lbs on the pull and I haven't heard or read any trigger job results. Back to New Hampshire??

Can you tell me how the slide stop is retained in the frame? I havn'g heard of any problems with this but had a miserable time with an old Colt 380 goveernmet model. Basically there was nothing retianing the slide stop and when the slide traveled backwards (or forwad) the slide stop would move into the disassembly notch tying up and partially dismounting the pistol.

The slide stop is done exactly like a 1911 is done, ive not heard of it being an issue on the p238.
I think the best way to keep it in place is a small disassembly slot when you have to line up,and the P238 has to be spot on to get the slide stop out.If it was a larger, sloppy or worn out slot it could make the slide hang up or back out.But that isnt the case here.

......in my basement

last nite i prepared for this friday; my daughter is bringing a girlfriend
for her first time out. so i loaded up 300 380's. 95 gr hard lead from Dardas.
100 each 2.5 [ light load], 2.8 [ replicates factory] and 3.1 [ duplicates many self defense rounds]
grains of bullseye. at 12.5 cents per round [ including a penny each to amortize the equipment]
my friends & i can have some fun. on the cheap. also made, will make 300-9mm; 300-45acp.
all at 12.5 cents per round. add a brick of 22lr and its a fun afternoon.

bersa & K-T P380 & OMC & Colt 1908.
i hope another friend brings his new P238-- as what you all are saying, it is accurate and fun to shoot.

I will check out luckygunner, G27RR, thanks....10 lb. plus tigger pull seems a little heavy, Jolly Rogers. For a SAO you would expect better than that. The P238 is supposed to be set at 5 lb. Mine is heavier than 5 but certainly not 10. I'd guess 6 or 7. I wonder if SIG could help you out with that?....Thanks DasFriek for answering mec's question. Yea, everthing has to be lined up precisely for assembly and disassembly. This is a tight little gun and the slide stop doesn't look like it will have that same issue as your Colt......12.5 cents per round!! Maybe I should seriously consider reloading!!

Hi, I'm brand new here but I saw this thread while searching for "Defense rounds" for my Sig P238 and thought I'd add a little data.

I bought this gun about a month ago for pocket carry and put my first 100 rounds through it last week. I lucked out and managed to find a few boxes of Winchester 95gr FMJ (white box), and a couple boxes of Double Tap 95 gr JHP.

I shot about 10 rounds of the Winchester through it with no problems and then let my wife try it. On the 3rd or 4th round she got a FTF. During the next 35 or so rounds I experienced another FTF and she got a FTE.

The Double Tap was much worse. We both had several FTF's. The Double Tap hollowpoints have light serrations in the point to aid with expansion. It's only a guess but I think these were causing some of the problem.

But... when I got home and took the gun apart to clean it I noticed a rough "nick" in the ramp of the barrel. It was fresh and there was definitely a burr on the edge that would have had an effect on feeding. I pulled out a tiny file and removed the burr and then polished the ramp to a mirror finish with a Dremel (the original machining was a bit rough).

I haven't had a chance to take it out again yet but I'll report back when I do. Meanwhile I'll probably carry it with FMJ's just to be safe.

In all fairness the nick could have happened very early in our shooting so I'm not too worried yet. Other than the this I love the gun. It just feels natural in my hand after years of shooting a Colt 1911.

Regards
