Hi. I own a 38 yr old model 1100 in perfect shape. Except.the wood stock near rhe recoil pad is bowing out. like 1/8" high, by 1/4" square. I removed the recoil pad and the wood is not split. I am scared if i try to sand this down and refinish i may never get the stain color correct, or even mess up the carvings. If you have any advise, please respond. Thanks!

Try using "Circa 1850 Furniture stripper" . It comes in a thin or thick formula and it works VERY QUICKLY!

The fumes aren't terrible but ventilation is a good idea. You will need a cheap paint brush, 00 steel wool (I used 0000 wool), and RUBBER GLOVES.

I can't emphasize the gloves enough. Medical gloves are useless as are the slightly thicker latex gloves from Safeway or similar stores. This stripper WILL make your skin feel like its on fire if the gloves don't work.

One last thing......wear eye protection too!

I used this stuff two days ago to strip a rifle stock and it cleaned the old finish off w/o a problem in about 20 minutes or less.
